Have you guys figured out a way to reduce rain spatter coming off concrete? Our garage doors get dirty relatively quick. Living in the Pacific Northwest, it doesn't take long.

Would stamped concrete help? Or any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Something like this would certainly help. But it would do nothing for driving rain or a "turd floater" down pour.

Of course the cleaner the surface next to the doors, the better. The only other solution would be to "disperse" the raindrops as they impact the ground- something like that artificial grass (not Astro-turf)- it has longer blades to it. However, that would probably look somewhat tacky being out there all the time.

Gutters or if you have asphalt shingles you can put a rain diverter so it falls next to your doors. I have a one foot overhand and they still get dirty.

That awning is pretty cool. Just not sure it would fit in with the design. We'll take a look. Thanks.

Artificial grass huh? If you could put a strip in that was gray or black in color to blend with the concrete maybe. Most any other color would look tacky.

I guess if we know there's a storm rolling in maybe sweep in front of the doors or place towels down temporarily. It didn't help that we painted them dark maroon. Ugh!

Thanks guys.

This is less trouble than just hosing them down quickly after a storm?:headscrat

You don't say how big a roof.

If you have gutters, are they big enough?
If you watch during a good rain, are they overflowing?
It is not unusual.

It may be time to "super size" them, with oversized downspouts.
Maybe start with doubled up downspouts to let the water out.

I have this problem, too. The wet splatter also highlights exactly where all the drunks and homeless have pissed on the doors.

How about a drain grate installed in the driveway along the drip line? Use Google images for ideas.

just a thought...

Are the garage doors on a gable end or eave? How much overhang, 24"? How much vertical distance between the top of the garage door and the eave, or if gable about how high on each side to underside of roof above?

Beside extending the overhang distance and painting the garage doors a darker color here are a few ideas along the idea K'legeBldr suggested (search for garage door eyebrow roof):

Gunguy, you might be onto something. We have not redone the driveway. So installing a drain grate in front of the doors would be relatively easy. Thank you.

Homerr, thank you for sharing those photos. The design of the garage has the eave's on the second story leaving the doors very vulnerable. The eave is only 12" deep.

I'll see if I can upload a photo. Thanks again.

So here's the garage. Driveway will be revised in another few weeks. As you can see, the eaves are shallow and with their placement in respect to the doors there is no protection overhead.

I would fill in the area between the gutter sections at the gables with a shallow pitched roof so there was one continuous fascia across with one gutter line. Would clean up the downspouts too.
