How to remove good strength silicon?

Can anyone please help as I'm trying do remove a strong silicon from where my heater box cover was. I have spent the best part of 2 hrs and removed about 5 inches of which I scraped it off with my finger nail, I tried to use a sraper but that seamed to start taking paint off the bulkhead and in total I have about 24 inches to go.

"Goof Off" is the best thing I've found to remove silicone. It doesn't really disolve it but makes it kinda fall apart. Test a small area first, as it softens some paints.

Thanks djjsr for the tip, we don't have Goof off in the U.K but I have found another alternative product that i'm going to try.
