How to Remove Scribe Marks on Tools?

I have a couple wrenches that I bought at flea markets that have past owners initials on them. Has anyone had any luck removing these or just live with it?

You can eliminate etchings, but 90% of the time it ends up looking worse.

If it is chrome, then didn't they dig down through the chrome? The only thing I can think is that if it is sanded down, then you have a BIG area of unplated steel.

Drill a hole in the center of the tool (not quite all the way through) and blow into the hole. The scratches should pop right out.
