Ok I went down to my local junkyard and grab a few things. So when I got to counter to pay the girl just marked on everything with the marker pen paint. Now I can't get it off. You know they do it for the warranty. But I don't think I will be having any problems out of the stuff I got so I just want the marks off. Any ideas? I know this is petty. But any luck

I think its supposed to say brake clean.

I believe the poster was referring to a specific brand that he believes works, possibly better than some of the other brands.

Brakleen is a CRC brake cleaner product. It's my preference and work better than some in house store brands.

Just removed some with lacquer thinner last week. Worked great but keep in mind it can also affect whatever is underneath it.

I also like the non-flammable one better than the flammable one. The colors might be backwards from what you think. The red is non-flammable and works a little better than the green one which is flammable. It has to do with fluorocarbons but I would rather use what works best.

Yeah I bought a distributor and a plastic hose connector. I just hate that "blue" marker pen. I think the next time I will tell her to mark it underneath so that I can't see it.

I tell them to not mark it, I'm not returning it. Or, I immediately wipe it off once I'm past the gate.

Good idea. I once bought a instrument clock panel and the girl marked it on the front instead of the back. I was pissed. I took it back got another one and made sure she marked it on the back.

This stuff works wonders as well. It will remove most types of marker, tar, and other stuff without tarnishing the surface of what you are cleaning. You should be able to buy it in the can like this, since you don't live in CA where they banned it. HA HA.

This was my experience with trying to remove the yellow junk yard paint pen markings from an underhood part on my car:

Superclean? No.
Lacquer thinner? No.
Xylene (same stuff as Goof Off but a lot cheaper)? No.
Acetone? YES!!!

I was amazed it wouldn't come off with Xylene which takes off just about anything.

Acetone was the only thing that worked...melted it right off. Must be some specific chemical reaction between acetone and whatever is in a yellow paint pen.

I cant believe yall go to junk yards.

Back when I used to do that, I was supporting a 40 year old Volvo 122S daily driver. My best score was a decent condition 4 speed transmission useable as found for $75. Yellow marker paint didn’t bother me at all. But for other parts I have used lacquer thinner.

I remember salvaging an all brass radiator overflow tank off of a mid 60’s T-bird ($8) that I sold on eBay for $80.

Not a whole lot of parts on a 122S to go south... couple of SU carbs, fiber timing gear, ball joints, ribbon speedo.

I snagged a 4 SP + OD transmission for an 1800S from a specialist recycler in upstate NY. I think I paid about the same, but at that point the transmission was only about 15 years old!
