How to remove this bearing? Advice Needed

I disassembled my Kellogg 321 compressor pump to rebuild it and everything was going good until I tried to use a bearing puller to pull the bearing from the crank shaft. It won't budge. I also tried to heat the bearing to make it expand a little using MAP gas on a torch but still won't budge. Also after looking at the inner race that is pressed in the cast housings, I don't see anyway to get behind them to drive them out. Pics below are what I have. Any advice on how to pull the bearing and race is appreciated. Maybe this is a job for a machine shop???

Maybe a bearing splitter? Otherwise, cut the cage/rollers off, cut a groove in the inner race as close to the shaft as you dare with a cut-off wheel and crack it with a chisel.

For the race stuck inside, if you have a welder, weld a bead around it to shrink it.

I would use a 3 jaw or a bearing splitter on them. I would get them nice a taught then heat it up to 3-400 degrees. Then give the race a sharp smack with a hammer. That should pop it loose. For the one stuck inside run a weld bead around it like garfunkle said.

On the crank a bearing splitter will grab that, otherwise you use a dremel to cut a slice and then crack the race with a chisel.

For the race in the recess, run a MIG weld bead on it and let cool, it will shrink and come out easy

Map gas wont do anything. You need an oxy/acet torch. Put the puller on it and crank it down tight. Hit the race with the torch in one spot till it is red hot and it will come off.

The inner races will probably need the weld trick.

Garfunkle beat me to the Cut A Grove, sharp chisel, and BFH Method.

You can weld a bead around the face of the race that's in the cover and then it will fall out. The welding process creates some shrinkage in the metal. We do it all the time. The inner i would do a others have suggested cut and crack it with chisel

What Garfunkel said! Take your time! It's an easy trick I use frequently at work for those stubborn bearings! Its to the point, if the bearing doesn't move after a couple blows, I grab the cutoff. No messing around! Good luck!

Put the crank in the freezer for a couple hours, then heat the bearing. Should come off easily.

If you don’t have a welder for that inner race, or for anyone in a situation where you can’t get a welder on the race (think fire), just hold some dry ice on race for about 20 seconds and it will fall out. Good gloves and insulated pliers/tongs required. Same method for installation.
I always got my dry ice from Walmart in recent years. Dry ice will not damage races. Caterpillar engineers assured me of that many years ago. I installed hundreds of over the road truck wheel bearing races with dry ice with no problems.

Yes, this is exactly how I would do it. Some times if you put a little heat on it after cutting the race, almost through, you will hear it snap. Wear protective eye wear.

This was the best advice. Thread closed.
