How to replace individual socket in Craftsmen socket set PN 34796?

Hi,

I have the same Craftsmen brand socket set as in this thread, of the same PN of 34796. I discovered recently that my socket set has two 11mm sockets and no 12mm. I want to purchase just a 12mm socket and throw away the 11mm, but where would I go to purchase the replacement 12mm socket?

I would have just gone directly to Sears for this, but I reason that would be a dead-end because the thread said they don't make that socket set anymore.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brent

Go to sears if you can find one with inventory. Order one from sears.com if you can navigate that pos website.

If not check ebay.

Sets come and go but the individual pieces are around.

If your looking to complete the set then look for the manuf code and get an identical one.

If you're not worried about it being new, just check a few pawn shops or yard sales. Otherwise, you're probably going to get a dual marked one new and may or may not be US made.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/par...hTaken=partSearch&blt=14&prst=0&shdPart=34796 is Sears replacement. From the image there it does not seem to have the metric sockets.

No, I'm not interested in replacing the socket set. Just wanted to replace the individual socket.

Was hoping for an online establishment where I could simply purchase the single 12mm.

I wouldn't actually throw away the 11mm. Probably leave it in a junk drawer.

Sears rarely matches the picture to the item described- use the description if you're ordering something.

Is there a Sears within driving distance? A 1/4" drive 12mm socket should be available as open stock, and cost less than four bucks with tax.

Yes there is. and:

Is this not what you are looking for?

Professional Use 12mm 6-Point Standard Socket 1/4-Inch Drive

http://www.sears.com/12mm-6-point-standard-socket-1-4-inch-drive/p-00940150000P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

Maybe. I mic'ed out the 11mm socket: OD is 0.613 inches (and yes the 12mm will be a bit larger), and length is 0.877 inches. The wrench is 1/4 inch drive. So the Professional Use 12mm 6-Point Standard Socket 1/4-Inch Drive you listed might do the trick.

Too bad that site doesn't give the dimensions. If the length is much greater than 0.877, the plastic lid might not actually close once I get the part home. Best bet for me probably is to have the Sears folks order it into the store, so that I can mic it at the store or try it out in the socket set at the store before purchasing it.

I doubt the dimensions of Craftsman sockets have changed appreciably in the past 20-25 years. I have a couple of warranty replacements in my sets and they're the same size as the older ones they replaced.

It's not like you're trying to find the fountain of youth or something, it's a damn Craftsman socket.

Just go to Sears and buy one already.
