I am wondering if someone can point me to some instructions on how to set this screwdriver for specific torque values.

It has the inch lb graduations in gold and then in the red ring it seems to be multipliers? So how for example would I set 32 inch lbs? Or 14 inch lbs?

Old tool IBM brand part number 16f-1661 No idea who made it for them.

It's a Utica. To adjust it lif up the silver collar and twist the bronze piece. There should be numbers vertically on the shaft and around the circumference. For 32inlbs, twist it past "30" until the "2" is in line with the vertical markings. So when the "0" is in line with "30" you are at 30inlbs, when you have passed the "30" and are lined up with "4", you are now at 34inlbs.

That is what I suspected but was not sure. Thanks.

Any idea what calibration would cost? This is a garage sale find.

Geez. What a simple procedure. Having the measuring device is the killer. Who calibrates the measuring device? LOL.

Yeah, they're only expensive when new with a valid certification. Most Ebay sellers test them for function only, not for accuracy or certification, so they're selling exactly what you have. You essentially saved yourself $15-20 in its' current state. Still a nice garage sale find if you have a use for it. I don't see that sort of thing at garage sales very often, I would have bought it too.

I agree. But now I am wondering if I will be snapping off screws.

Hi All,

After speaking to my source at Utica/Apex Tools, he related the following,

"As far as calibration goes, the only thing I might add is that the tool should be re calibrated every 6 months as a general rule if it is being used on a regular basis. I would also recommend that it is returned to '0' after use so as to take the tension of the internal springs. Accuracy is +/- 6% starting at 20% of full scale."

If anyone has any questions regarding Utica Torque Tools please let me know and I can contact their Engineering Department.

Do you know what they charge for calibration on these?
