How to Ship a chainsaw?

Does anyone know if you have to do anything special for small gas engines for shipping? I am looking at buying two 1958 Homelite Zip chainsaws while in Oregon and need to ship them home to Oklahoma for to sit around my house until i get the time to re-do them

Empty gas, maybe take it apart and let the gas evaporate.

Ive shipped a few. Empty the gas, and bar oil, and blow out the gas tank with compressed air. Pack it well and send them off.

Shippers don't usually get excited until the outside of the package shows something inside is leaking. So to be safe once drained and blown dry double bag it on plastic bags so if a bit does weep out it will be contained.

And have the bars taken off during transport and taped flat to the inside of the box... (Helps you get in a smaller box too)

With the bar taken off and packed in a box closest to the size of the saws, USPS Parcel Post shouldn't run you more the 30.00 It only take a few minutes to calculate shipping from their online shipping calculator.

If you are worrying about purging the tanks of fumes, I was taught to let it dry out then hold the tank under the exhaust pipe of a running vehicle and let the carbon monoxide do the work for you. It sounds like a pain but i don't think you are going to bring an air compressor, nitrogen bottles, or have a workshop where you could work on the chainsaws.

Now if any one has an answer how it made its way to a DRMO dumpster in Kuwait, I'd like to know as Kuwait is not known for its forests.

No forests, but a LOT of construction, and sometimes a chainsaw is handy to have...

Drain them, let them air out, and use multiple bags to prevent odors alerting folks in the chain of delivery. If you jam the saw into a box, the handlers will throw it around and break something; so use a lot of padding in the box or maybe even double box it. Definitely take off the bar and wrap it in multiple layers of newspaper and fold over tips. Leave the wrap handle on to protect the case/covers if you can. Reingforce box corners with extra tape.

I have a buddy that wanted to get rid of a sofa he had on the 2nd floor of his house. No problem, he has two kids that were of age to help bring it down.

Problem: the 2 kids are ****** and wouldn't help.
Solution: wait until the wife is out of the house for the entire day. Proceed to lay waste to the sofa with a CHAINSAW while still inside the house. Open windows to vent house before wife gets home.

Could not believe he did this, it never even would have occurred to me. Of course, the dude doesn't have anything for tools so a reciprocating saw was not an option. This is a white-collar guy in a nice house too - so picture that.

I would have used the chainsaw on the two ****** kids instead of the sofa.
