As above, I seem to be having very bad luck of late with ebay and tools. People describing things as 'Brand New' and when they arrive you find they clearly aren't f*cking new - anyway, I bought a breaker bar and the handle doesn't quite sit right on the bar and it's wonkey. Is there any way to sort this? I don't want to damage it, and if it's not fixable I will return it for a refund. Here are the pics (excuse the quality it's a phone pic)

Here in the States most everyone is still asleep right now. Of course, maybe some of the blokes in on your side of the pond will chime in soon.

You may also find that the head is twisted. File a claim with ebay.

You could always warranty it and get a brand new one. Just call snap on and tell them whats going on. I called them last week to get a 1/2, 9/16, 5/16, 18-20,wrenches and 1/4, 5/8 sockets warrantied for chrome peel. They told me it would be too expensive to send them back so scrap them and they will send me all brand new wrenches and sockets. I couldnt believe it, so now I have doubles of these tools. Cant beat that warranty.

Luck would have it that our snap on man came by today, and I showed it to him, explained the situation, and he sawpped it for a brand new one! EXCELLENT service so thanks Snap On!

I am pissed about the ebay guy though....I will message him about it. I have bought lots on ebay recently where people claim tools are new, and they CLEARLY aren't.....ruins it for people.

You really need to file claims on those types of people and give them bad feedback or they will just keep doing it again and again. Sure you might E-Mail the guy but the deal is done and you have already traded the proof away. At the very least give the seller negative feedback. This is one of the reasons so many people KEEP getting ripped off on E-Bay because nobody gives a **** anymore.

Did that little gap really affect the functionality of the bar or was it just not "right"? Maybe the previous owner never used it therefore concidered it "new". The rest of the world doesnt idolize their tool like us... Something to think about before leaving negative feedback. My .02

It looks like the guy had a cheater pipe on it, bent the handle and ruined the grip and then tried to put another grip on it and sell it "as new".

That's eerie; I was reading the other replies and formulating my post in my head as I went, then when I got to yours you said exactly what I was going to say almost verbatim!

I believe that's exactly what happened.

I am still amused at the slight variances of the english language. "Wonkey" is a good word that may be added to the vocabulary.

My opinion is that a cheater piper was used on that thing. Whether or not he replaced the handle depends on a lot of "effort" variables.

Wonkey FTW!!!!!!!! :lol_hitti

And yes, I wouldn't be surprised if the j@ack@$$ tried to swap handles or something odd and tried to drill out the handle hole and lobbed it off-center.

Ha ha, glad my 'queens english' is amusing you yanks! :bounce:

Anyways, yes it appears to be bent now I think about it...

I have emailed the guy and I do care about it, and I care about ebay being a good place for buyers, BUT, I have left negative feedback before and ebay removed it. They are f*cking useless. Their customer service dept is a nightmare to deal with, and if you complain via telepohne you get some muppet who cannot speak english properly, or understand you properly, so it's not worth the arseache unfortunately :headscrat

I buy tools at auctions and from retiree's and resell on ebay. I could have easily gotten this ratchet, appearing new, and not really noticed the handle problem. Its possible anyway. If my customer sent me a message about it I'd give a full refund upon receiving it back, or make it right in some other way.

There is a good chance the seller wasn't being a scumbag. He may have just missed it. On used items, it can be difficult to find every little thing that buyers may find issue with, especially if you're doing a lot of items. New should be a little easier.

Either way you need to contact the seller before giving negative. Little hiccups will happen. Let him prove to you why he's a kickass (or terrible) ebay seller.

Just my 2 cents.

I think the OP already ruined his chances at legitamately giving negative feedback. Yup the item was bad but he got a brand new one that was perfect the very next day (or close to it) at this point the buyer is happy with the end result of the purchase.

Neutral feedback would be the only course of action. Then explain in the explanation how it went down. Does not really punish the seller but that is how it goes if you go out of your way to fix a problem yourself because it is easier than dealing with eBay.

At least it was replaced... Trying to bend that back would have just made that breaker bar dangerous... Think paper clip...
