We are finishing out the sheetrock in my shop and I'm fixing to order white metal to use on the ceiling. How do you trim out and seal the ends of the metal where it meets the sheetrock? Do they make a specific trim for this or am I going to have to make something. I tried searching but no luck.

Galute,
if you had put the ceiling up first you could have just notched the sheetrock but, you may still be ok, depending on how square it is. I'd put a piece up and see how tight it fits, ya might not have to trim it at all or maybe a bead of calk. If it is noticeable, as Always said, there is a L and an inside corner trim. If ya gotta use these, there is also a foam sealer that is notched for the ribs, stick it to the tin first and then trim it out.

As stated above, there are both inside and outside closures available at about 75 cents each to seal the ends. J channel in metal or Vinyl can be used to trim ends.

The guys that built my Morton building used a nibbler to trim the corrugated metal. They had $400 nibblers and were darn good at trimming it free hand (they get lots of practice). I tried the $25 HF nimbler and it worked pretty good but I would need a lot of practice to work it as good and fast as those guys. http://t.harborfreight.com/16-gauge-air-nibbler-96661.html?utm_referrer=https://www.google.com/

The corrugated metal installations I've seen all go into a j channel .

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I considered the J and L trim but I wasn't sure how that would look on the straight edge sides. I plan on using the foam closures on the corrugated ends.

Charles. I had considered just jamming the ends into the sheetrock but I was afraid when the metal heats up and cools down I would either have a gap or the metal would bow up and look warped. Especially in the area over my wood stove which can get quite hot. I had this happen once on a small garage where we sat the edge of the metal too close to the concrete. When the sun shined on it and the metal expanded with no room for expansion the metal bowed out and looked like **** until it cooled back down. Am I just over thinking this?

The difference is going to be, concrete wont give as sheatrock will somewhat. Like I said, if everything fits tight enough, stick it up with out trim and if it does expand and buckle, you could trim the rock with a utility knife for expatiation room.

I used 1'x6" MDF and attached my air and electrical conduits to it.

I get a steady supply of decent 1X6 crate wood from work that is 12 feet long. I am planning to use closures, then will rip some of the wood about 1-1/2" to trim at the corrugated end, then rip pieces for the thin sides that will work out to match the lower edge of the end trim that was used. A little paint and I should end up with free trim.

I used a "J" trim piece. See Post #84 of my garage build thread for details and pics. "J" was stood off from wall 1/2" to allow installation of drywall:

It worked great!

I checked out your thread. The J trim looks really nice and is what I probably will end up doing. Very nice building you have there. Thanks for the help.

BTW, I spent most of 2013 in your area working in Scio. Loved the area and super friendly folks.

"J" channel on mine. The ceiling went up before the OSB walls, and the "J" was butted up to the wall top plate, then the OSB was butted up to the bottom flange of he "J". Looks clean, and most of the "J" is actually hidden.

I just used J channel on the ceiling to hide the edge of the metal, and another on the wall to hide the edge of the paneling or dry wall.

Small world! I live just off Rt. 250 about half-way between Cadiz and Tappan Lake. Maybe 10 miles from Scio.

You must work in oil & gas construction??

Yep. Pipeline inspector. We ran a few supply lines into the cracker plant in Scio and some distribution lines out. I know the area where you are. We used to slip off to the marina on Tappan lake for lunch or maybe head into Cadiz for pizza. There is a small restaurant on the left just before you get to Cadiz, an old truck stop I believe. That was my favorite spot. Good food and the lady that ran it always took care of us. We did a lot of work out on Lower Clearfork, Addy, Merriman and Mizer roads. It is a small world.

Yeah, Bessie's! It's been closed for about a year now, but I think it recently sold so may reopen soon. One of my farms is on Lower Clearfork Rd!!

Sorry, GJ'ers, I guess we are sort of drifting off topic!!

Bessies!! That's it. I miss that place. I hope the eagle family is still doing well. Sometimes I would go down at daylight and watch the parents take care of their young with my binoculars. Spectacular birds.

Sorry for the off topic guys.
