Hello,

I am looking to polish some of my ratchets so I purchased some Blue Magic polish. I was wondering how everyone else used it. Do I put it onto the cloth wheel first or wipe it off with the wheel. The cloth wheel is mounted to a bench grinder. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I use blue magic as a final polishing step for shining up vise handles.
Depending on how your ratchet handles look now, you may or may not achieve the look you want with polish alone.
I apply the polish to the part and then hit it with my cloth wheel. Don’t use too much or it will just fling it off and make a mess.
Instead of Blue Magic, you might want to experiment with jewelers’ rouge. Works for me.

But polish is the last step after sanding with progressively finer sandpaper. I use 800 grit emery cloth in between sandpaper and the polish like Blue Magic or jewelers’ rouge.

Another tool you might want to try is the 3M bristle wheel. I use mine a lot.
