How to Wire New 3-Way Switches???

I'm replacing all the switches in my house with GE Z-Wave Plus switches that require a neutral.

I have a 3-way switch at the top and bottom of my stairs. At the top of the stairs is a 2 gang box. One switch is a simple on/off to a single light in the attic space. The other is one of the 3-way switches that controls 2 lights in the stairwell. At the bottom of the stairs is a 1 gang box with the second 3-way switch.

The 2 gang box has 4 sets (combination of 14-2 and 14-3) of wires coming into the box. The bottom box only has a single 14-3 wire.

The GE switches are a little different. The main switch would have Line, Traveler(Traveler Red), Load(Traveler Black), Neutral and Ground. The "Add-On" switch only has Ground, Neutral and Traveler. The Load(Traveler Black) wire gets wired directly to the load going to the light.

Attached are pics of the switches. The pics on the top are the 1 gang box at the bottom of the stairs. The pics on the bottom are the 2 gang box at the top.

The other pic is from a YouTube video on how I assume my lights are wired.

How do I wire in these new switches since I have no neutral in the 1 gang box?

Use the white conductor in the 14-3 to get your neutral.

Connect it to neutral at top of stairs assuming it goes to 2 gang j box

The white in the 14-3 is connected to the common screw on the 3 way switch. It's also hot when the power is on. Would that still be the neutral?

It looks like you do have a neutral in the single gang box????

You need to be able to id all the wires in the boxes - where do they go, (which is the line, which is the load), and are both the attic light and the stair way lights on the same circuit?

It sounds like in the 2 gang box at the top of the stairs is something like this
(1) 14-2 attic light
(1) 14-2 line (always hot)
(1) 14-2 load (to lights)
(1) 14-3 traveller to other switch box

and the single gang box at the bottom of the stairs is like this
(1) 14-3 traveller from the box at the top of the stairs

The GE add on switches don't work like a regular 3 way switch - all they do is send a signal to the master switch. That is why it only needs two wires - a traveller and a neutral.

If that is the case, 2 gang box - all the white neutral wires are wire nutted togethor with a short jumper wire to go to the GE master switch. Connect the black line and black load wire to the switch and use the red wire from the 14-3 as your traveller.

In the single gang box with the 14-3. The red is your traveller, the white is your neutral and cap (wire nut) the black because it is not used and don't forget your ground

again - make sure the attic light and the stair light is on the same circuit
