How weatherproof are the Montezuma triangle boxes?

In the process of planning for the flatbed on my truck(F450 with 9ft bed) for a farm service truck. My question is how weatherproof are the Montezuma boxes? This truck will be outside 24/7 and driven in crappy weather, and i'd rather not spend $700 on a box and another $1k in tools for it to get let water in during a heavy rain or snow. I've only ever been close to one at a farm show and the weatherstripping didn't impress me a whole lot, but its also hard for me to judge it just on that.

i have 4 of them. 3 older ones. 2 of the smallest versions that i move from tractors to combines to whatever. one of the larger ones that stays mounted on the rail of my pickup and a crossover in my shop. i have added weatherstripping to the first three that are older and did not have weatherstripping.

i have no issues with them being weather resistant. one can have condensation issues but that can happen in any enclosed space. the 2 smaller ones have over 10,000 hrs off road and the one in my truck has 300,000 miles under it.

i have a few topics that can be found by searching through topics i have started. there is a picture of on in my avatar.

if the op wishes i can find one of my old topics and bump it.

I have been using the 36" model (xl450b I think) for 2-3 years now. I haven't had any water get into mine although I live in a fairly dry environment and it's only used during the summer and fall. Mine does seem to get some dust inside it and I think once I had a tiny amount of snow blow into it. After buying another 36" box a month ago I noticed how much tighter the lid on the new box is so I probably need to adjust the striker on my first one.

I've had them on a few trucks. Never had a water issue with one.

Following along too. John Deere boxes appear to be rebranded Montezuma boxes but are considerably cheaper. Anyone have experience with these?

They are great if you get the right one. If you notice the fleet farm ad. One is for outdoor use the other is not. I have seen a few people make that mistake when adding one to their service vehicle.

I’ve had two, never had any issues with water getting in. I had a 36” first and sold it to buy a 30”. The 36” had a lot of wasted space and was about 4” taller than my truck bed side. The 30” is almost level with the bed side, which I like because mine is at the back of my bed and I pull a gooseneck fairly regularly.

We have them on our farm and are pretty happy. I haven’t had water issues but they do let dust / dirt in. I would guess through the hinge. I wish the box was made of one gauge heavier metal as the lid flex makes closing and latching properly.

the wrenches rattle so if you are noise sensitive you may not love them. I think this could be fixed with some magnetic strips

they are nice for finding a wrench or socket quickly and staying organized plus you can get a lot of tools in a small space
