Check out these pics of my steel building and tell me if it's possible to mount a Liftmaster 3800. I'm not sure how it would be done.

And FYI, I don't have the unit so I can't look at it. I am trying to figure out if it will work for me before I drop the bucks.

The LM 3800 mounts via the torsion tube ,this is what carries the weight of the unit. Then you are correct, it has an "L" bracket at the bottom that is used to help support the weight but also keep it from rotating up or down.

you just need to make a bracket that stands off the wall enough to match up with the small bottom bracket that comes with the unit. what isn't obvious, and wasn't to me until I had everything up there, is that the unit is actually mounted to the 1 inch bar via the special coupler. the wimpy lower bracket is just there to stabilize the unit and keep it from turning. this isn't pointed out in the directions...just think about it...all the weight, which is substantial, is suspended from the bar via the coupler.

here's how mine is installed. It attaches to the jackshaft and the bracket is off to the left.
