How would you do it?

Id like to build some steps from the garage, into the house. They must be movable because my crawl space is behind them. Id like the steps to be at least 12 inch, on the part you step on. How would you build them? This is what was here when i bought the place. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

I would use 3/4'' plywood for the sides. You can cut the height to be the distance from top of slab to bottom of door. Determine how far out you want to go, then frame in with 2x4's for stair cleats and 2x12's for treads.

Mine was a little different in that I only needed one step and it's attached to the wall but the same idea could be used for an additional step and rear legs. I generally prefer metal over wood but if the old step is solid you might just put some new treads on it.

For me I would do a weld up frame and use aluminum diamond plate for the treads

Uh, what seems to be the problem with the steps that are already in place ?

Looks to be serviceable to me. Of course, you could look into an elevator

style of lift if you really want to wow the neighbors...

Im rebuilding the steps because id like some that are strong, sturdy, and easier on the eyes. Also, i wear a size 15 shoe and these steps are annoying. Lol

Id make an angle iron frame to span the hole, with the angle turned down to locate it (then you dont have anything sitting on the dirt). Put a tube or angle iron frame on top of that and some nice timber treads to top it off.

Thats a good idea turning the angle iron down into the hole. That would keep it from working its way away from where its supposed to be. (Im always having to center it up and push it back up against the wall.
