Yes...using a rubber bushing....

Cast Iron Rubber Bushings or Donuts are inserted into the wide mouth opening of the installed cast iron pipe and allow you to insert a PVC or Steel pipe into the center of the cast iron pipe without the need to use lead and oakum which would melt the PVC or not join well to the Steel or Brass pipe you are inserting.

Normally you place the rubber bushing on the PVC pipe first then force the two parts together. This will depend on the positioning of the pipe and your ability to manipulate them.

Mine was a repair in ABS that was done with a plastic filler and oakum back in the 60's. So there are ways without lead. But I like the gasket far and above. Got it at HD.

ambenz has the only good way for you to hook this up but to be honest by the time you buy that connector gasket you could buy one made of abs plastic made to connect to pvc a lot cheaper.

You mean the drain would be ABS, that would not last long in a shop setting.

Thanks for the info. I got the drain, 51.00 shipped and a gasket and bushing ( stepping it down to 3in. ) cost me 9.00 so now that is a good deal.

I am glad my suggestion saved you from lead exposure. Plus if you ever have to redo the floor you can pop out the drain and reinstall.
