How’d I do?

I thought I would try my hand at working with some sheet metal, and I had some sockets that needed holders.

I liked the ones I made, because the sockets don’t go anywhere and its compact. I can toss it in the truck and not worry about digging sockets out of the seat cracks.

For a first time project, how did I do? There a bit rough around the edges, but they will work for what I need.

That's really slick. I've been wanting a few of that style of rack for a while now and couldn't find anybody who sold them today. Making my own never crossed my mind.

I think excellent!

I love that style socket holder and wish I could buy some although have thought of making them like you did. My Craftsman deep well sockets have that style holder.

What gauge metal did you use?

Years ago we had a member here named Elroy (I think he got banned). Any event, he made similar holders and I saved his pics in the event I ever built some.

22 guage steel sheet metal. It was pretty tough to work with so I bought some 26 guage, It was easier to work with but it was more flimsy. I reccomend 22 guage steel.

Looks great! You might consider cutting the bolts that hold the swinging piece so they don't protrude beyond the wingnut 'ears' - less likely to snag / stab something.
