Hello all a co worker convinced me to join yet another forum!
Lived in Alaska for 22 years, work at a family owed goldmine for 7 years now, finished building my first house 2 years ago with my dad, have an addiction to tools and all things diesel and fast. Hopefully I'll fit in around here.

Howdy and welcome to GJ. Before I retired I worked for a company out of Alaska, one winter day we had freezing rain and ice on the roads, this is south Texas we don't do freezing or ice, so the base was closing the next day, mort storm overnight, so I had to call hq to report no work tomorrow, they were not impressed with why.

Welcome from NC.
You don't have to tell us where the gold is but where are you located. I presume the interior? I love AK. Lived in ANC for a while with regular travel to the North Slope, Kodiak etc.

We've been lucky this year with the freezing rain so far, the past few years though we get hit bad where there's almost an inch of ice on the highways. Takes till may for it to thaw out!

I reside in Fairbanks, don't have any plans of moving ever. Do you still make trips to the slope?

It has been three years for me. Long backpack trips. Usually I will fly to Fairbanks, overnight at the infamous "Golden North Hotel", fly to a larger town like Bettles or Anuktuvuk Pass or Arctic Village. Then a bush pilot will take me to the Brooks range. I love the Canning River and Franklin Mouintains.
Now I'm missing it and want to start working on a trip for next year.
