Texas native here! I'm new to this forum and honestly new to working in a garage. Been working in the service industry for a few years, until recently when I was approached by a friend who was going to be starting his own business and he asked me to come aboard. I had always enjoyed working with my hands, and I'm not a total stranger to working with tools, and I needed a change, so I said "Hell yeah".
I mainly clean parts for older/vintage motorcycles or the smaller parts to the cars that he's restoring, using parts washers and a media blaster. The work is simple enough and keeps my busy, and I enjoy it. Never done this before but they say I'm doing a good job, so Any suggestions on better ways to get off old paint, rust, and other crud would be very much appreciated!
As far as experience in garages, I don't have much. Aside from what my dad tried teaching me growing up, I used to watch my grandpa and sometimes help him in his garage or at his farm. They were both mechanics in the military,(Dad during Vietnam, and Grandpa during WWII) and they wanted to have me around when they had their own projects going on(restoring a model A, or building an addition to my childhood home) and wanted to teach me what they've learned over the years, haha but apparently watching cartoons and playing in the dirt with my tonka trucks seemed like more fun to me.
Maybe i'll learn a thing or two this time around. hopefully this forum can help!!
