Howdy from NC (and shop pix)!
My brother (J P Smith on GJ) was visiting from Arizona a few weeks back and mentioned how much he enjoyed this forum, so I thought that I would join and check things out.
I live on a small farm outside of Raleigh, NC and have separate shops for machine work (vertical mill, bench lathe and a shear/brake/roll), welding (MIG(s), TIG, stick and diesel engine driven welders), equipment repair (both heavy equipment as well as automotive with a lift), and a climate controlled woodshop that is a nice complement to our farm based sawmill and lumber business. At some point in the future I would like to add a separate blacksmiths shop to the mix.
From perusing some of the forums it appears that there is a plethora of knowledge and talent on this forum (as well as some truly incredible garages and workshops)! I look forward to learning from y'all.
Here are a few pix of the various garages and shops. This is the mechanic and welding shop:
The machine shop is located inside of this old log cabin. We installed spray foam in the ceiling of the cabin earlier today:
Here are some photos of the woodshop while it was under construction. This photo was taken while we were setting the last truss. I'm operating the crane, and one of my farm hands is operating the manlift. The main truss span is 60', and the half trusses on the right side are 22' span.
This was taken not long after the slabs were poured. The entire building is 5,300 sq. ft.
This is part of the radiant heating in the woodshop:
and here is a photo of the slab pour showing the insulation and pex tubing. The main shop floor is 6" thick.
