Howdy from Portland, OR

Howdy folks
I'm a first time home owner of an old, 1920's bungalow with a detached garage. The garage is in fine shape, just needs to be cleared out, insulted, reorganized, etc. No problem right?
I look forward to gathering knowledge from the folks on this forum. I have many questions. So thanks in advance

NEWB: BEE CAREFUL asking for advice her just because you'll usually wind up needing a much bigger garage. sort of kidding really, but your tool knowledge and amount of them should greatly increase once you've been here a while.

post up some before pictures as you have the time to so we can maybe give you some ideas and ask questions if you have any.

i'd probably move to Portland if i could talk my bride into moving there cause we love going out to the Oregon Coast just to relax and eat. the food isn't half bad in Portland either and the weather is about the same as here in Seattle.

It's OK to insult your own garage but be care of insulting others. Welcome from down south.

Where's the best place to start on this forum? I need to start formulating a plan of action. I have some questions about insulation, organization, bench material, etc. Would the General Garage Discussion board be the best place?

I suggest that you start with the search. Search on each word or subject and see what pops up. The subjects you listed have all been discussed many times here. If you are going to ask about insulation you need to have a location in your profile because what we do here is different than Texas or Ontario Canada.

There is so much info on this site, you could read for the next few years and still never read it all.

NEWB: if you can't find the subjects you mentioned or the exact questions already answered several times do a GOOGLE search which sometimes comes up with some of the older GJ threads and it always led me here for years prior to joining.
also before you just start a thread ask questions on threads sort of talking about the stuff you are wanting more information about.

as stated you can read maybe for years on here about garages, tools and stuff and still not know as much as some of the active members do if you find the right ones to ask your questions to.

Welcome, Im down in Coos Bay, OR. I find most forum searches are lacking so use Google but in a way that it will only search GJ. Where you normally type in your search in google, type "site:http://www.garagejournal.com" and then what you want to search....say you want to search GJ for oh say pegboard, then type

site:http://www.garagejournal.com pegboard

Then after you do the search, sometimes its easier to just look at pics, click on images at the top. Makes it much easier to find exactly what you are looking for!
