Howdy! My name is Jon, I live in Mississippi. Stumbled onto this board the other day while gathering ideas for a future shop/home build I'm planning. I have to say, some of what you guys have done is rather impressive.

For the last 15 years I've mostly worked in residential construction, mostly tile work, but also build custom cabinets, trim carpentry, additions, decks, well almost anything. But I primarily work in the flooring end of the spectrum.

Prior to getting into construction I followed my childhood dream of working on cars for a living. ASE cert master tech, ICAR cert body man, ICAR and DuPont cert auto body refinisher, blah blah. Well, got tired of starving to death working for the other man and realized I had to work for myself to get anywhere in life. Seeing that I didn't have the capital to start up a full fledged mechanic shop, I did the only other thing I knew how to do, and that was construction. That was just as the big housing boom was kicking off, so I sold off my mechanic's set and never looked back.

Now that I'm older, hopefully a little wiser, I'm wanting to get back to my first love. So I'm hoping that the work will continue to sustain me a little while longer, keep the bills paid and hopefully I can get started on building my dream shop. I'm planning on a 60' x 100' x 16' metal building, with a 20' x 60' 2 story living area. I'm divorced and have no plans on getting remarried, but I do have 2 lovely daughters that I hope will occupy most of my free time for years to come, hopefully a lot of which will be spent in the shop.

Anyway, enough about me, you guys seem great and look forward to learning as much as I can from you.

Jon

Hmmm, I like the ratio, 6000 ft of shop to 1200 ft living space.....that would be my dream place.
