I'm looking at a lathe with a 3 phase motor. It has a 3/4 HP rated motor on it. If I replaced that 3 phase motor with a 120V 3/4 HP would I have any issues ? Common sense tells me, the rating will be the same everything else being equal but I don't deal with 3 phase stuff very often if, at all.

I'd run this one by my step-dad (retired electrician) but I think the Alzheimer's is too far gone for him to correctly answer it.

Appreciate the help.
To answer the original question: watts are watts, a 3/4 hp motor puts out 3/4 hp no matter the voltage.
I'd suggest asking your stepdad anyway, the mental exercise may be beneficial for him.

Nah, what I saw the other day in conversation and actions. . . probably not. Hands on work, and electrical work, he was once as smart as they come... but it's gone now and I'm afraid the worse is yet to come.

Ending price seems to be less than the gear box commands separately.

Now that it has ended, I will point out that it is an Atlas/Craftsman 12x36 lathe with undermount motor. Last design of these from about mid 50-70s (later ones were based on Clausing post-merger).

Didn't want to add more info until OP dropped out of the bidding, so as to not accidentally enable another bidder.

I had one of those growing up. Nicest lathe Craftsman ever rebadged in my opinion. Good home lathe but if you have more space there are much beefier lathe options that will allow for machining things a lot faster.

Did you get the lathe?
No, it started climbing in bids and ended at $260... I quit watching auction when it did and went to eat with the wife

I know it seems cheap but I was taking into account a motor swap....a possible purchase of different motor or adding a VFD to run it along with various other costs to look at the whole picture.

I also have to deal with some stuff for my parents this month which will include a decent amount of running around for the appts ... And I need to get firewood cut before the snow flies.

I have no history on the lathe and didn't get to do the auction preview so I felt it was best to let it pass me by

When I was talking to the wife about it, not that she cared about buying it, she asked where are you going to put it.
