Does anyone have any links to "Consumer Reports"-type tests of HRV systems? I am just looking into them, and want a top-notch brand (efficient, reliable, actually work, etc). Opinions, links, experience w/? Venmar and LifeBreath have been suggested so far, but no unbiased test data was included. Thanks. john

I just installed a Venmar AVS Constructo 1.5 for my 30 yr. old 1500 sq. ft. bungalow. I did the installation with the help of a buddy of mine who is an HVAC contractor and got me a good deal on it.

http://www.venmar.ca/BrochureCanada.aspx

I have the unit running on demand at this time and turn it on when I notice a bit of moisture appearing on the windows. It works very well and I am pleased with it as a tool to control excess humidity buildup when the temps outside dip below freezing. I also used it in the fall to get some better air circulation in the house without having to resort to opening windoes and letting in all the dust and pollen, etc.

I must also add that this is the second HRV installation I have had experience with in a personal dwelling. I also installed one in former home I had that was very air tight back in the early '80's when they first started to appear on the market (back when the R2000 insulation specs. came to Canada).

The only negative I have is the lack of any decent wiring documentation or technical support on how to interlock their wall mounted remote control units to the furnace controls. After several attempts to contact their technical support in Quebec (where they are manufactured) I just gave up on it for now and just manually turn it on and off when I need it. I guess they will only talk to their dealers or something?

Ez: Thanks for the feedback on the Venmar; glad it is working for you, and I hope you get to tech support eventually. I wish more companies catered at least a little bit to DIY folks.
