Huck Pistol Grip Rivet Gun

I got this Huck Rivet Gun in a lot of tools I had purchased. It appears that all of the parts and pieces are present but someone took it apart at some point. Maybe the nail from the rivet got stuck at some point or they tried to change the jaws. Anyway, I can not for the life of me get this spring compressed enough to screw the nose cone back on. Anyone have any ideas, tips, or tricks? I did some searching and these were high dollar high quality guns and still are.

I have the HSI? version, same hyd system.

Have you depressed the button under the barrel and squeezed the trigger to retract the head?

Mine always seems to have a little extra to depress before its zero'd out.

I tried depressing the button trabellb but that didn't work either.
