I was at lowes this morning, and they were redoing the entire tool world. There is now everything that was at sears, and more. They have single sockets to the entire brand new cordless line. Are any of you lowes getting all of this too?

Same thing here. But for me it just feels wrong for some unexplainable reason. I just can't bring myself to even pay attention where as when I would go to a sears store I'd wander aimlessly.

Not here yet. They have one small bookend on an aisle with signage and some socket sets, the tall cabinet and shallow depth work table, but the Kobalt line is still filling the main tool area and very little is on clearance.

Does CM co-exist with Kobalt or have they reduced Kobalt singles?

Have you compared pricing between CM and Kobalt for the same items?

Just curious.

Some of you may find this interesting. Craftsman is starting to make their toolboxes in the U.S. as well as a few other tools. They said it's a slow process but they are trying.

https://www.craftsman.com/whereitsmade

I have always liked Craftsman, even when they went Chinese I still liked them. Only once I started using this site did I change brands.

They must be listening so everybody who said they stopped buying them when they went Chinese better start buying them now. Otherwise they will go Chinese again.

I checked both Lowe’s near me in Cincinnati. The usually tool boxes, mechanic sets, flashlights and small wrench sets that everyone else has already seen. I did see tape measures, aviation ships, a couple power tools and some drill bit sets this past Saturday.

I picked up one of the new Craftsman green high visibility tape measures for $5 for a flooring project I was working on. It held up well despite being dropped a few times. Well worth the price. I think coo was Thailand or Taiwan? The USA made tape measure was over $25.

It didn't take them long to bring in the Assembled in USA DeWalt

Since Sears pretty much went all Chinese,I have found myself buying a lot more Proto
lately. With the small liquidators thread and Zoro coupons, Proto can be purchased for just a little more than Sears Chinaman.

The “made with global materials” has me skeptical. The same way that some cars are made in other countries, partially disassembled, and then re assembled in the US so they can say “made in USA”.

I'm sure the parts run through a pretty good quality control before they get assembled.I think it's just the way of the world with more that you would believe.

There is zero winning with this crowd. Do you think a fully made in US Craftsman for 400-500 would sell? It's still creating US jobs and that is a step in the right direction

No, that's just to get around the "Chicken Tax" and other tariffs. It all started with a trade battle between the US and France/Germany over US chickens. It went into effect in 1963 and the 25% tariff still exists today for light trucks.

** The Craftsman cordless/brushless that are 'Made in the USA with global materials' are basically rebadges of Stanley's Dewalt cordless.

New Craftsman 20V Cordless Power Tools! (Including Brushless and Made in USA*)
https://toolguyd.com/craftsman-20v-cordless-power-tools-brushless-made-in-usa/

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RzxT9pVniPY" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

^ No doubt Stanley has expanded that plant and/or others like it since that video in 2015 as Dewalt now has even more 'Made in USA with global materials' cordless tools and to incorporate the new Craftsman additions.

** Stanley Craftsman's tool chests are made here in the US in Sedalia MO (formerly was a 'Waterloo' plant)

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ejy7l3uVSgg" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

** And coming soon will be made in USA craftsman lawn and garden equipment as Stanley just bought a 20% stake in MTD with an option to buy out remaining 80% in 2021

Sept 12, 2018: Stanley Black & Decker To Acquire 20 Percent Stake In MTD Products For $234 Million
- Provides Entry Into The Lawn And Garden Sector With Minority Stake In Leading Outdoor Power Equipment Manufacturer
- Option To Acquire Remaining 80 Percent Stake Beginning In 2021
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...n-mtd-products-for-234-million-300710830.html

** BUT, there's been no sign so far that Stanley plans to offer Craftsman hand tools that are 'Made in the USA'. All of the Stanley Craftsman ratchets, sockets, wrenches, etc so far have been rebadges of Stanley products made in Taiwan (or China?)

It's ok most are confused by this.

There have been multiple suits involving multiple companies incorrectly using the made in USA standard and multiple fines were imposed. Stanley actually now uses "Made in USA with global components" not "built" simply using the word " Made" comes with requirements.

https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-made-usa-standard that's the federal government's guideline.

Scroll down to the heading that says "when is a qualified made in USA claim appropriate" the example under that heading appears to closely resemble Stanley's situation. To even use the word "Made" in a product it must containt a "significant" amount of U.S. content or U. S. Processing AND the product has to under go a "substantial transformation" here in the states.

Now scroll down to the heading "assembled in USA claims" Sub assemblies CANNOT simply be "snapped" together because that does not constitute a "substantial transformation" even for an "ASSEMBLED IN USA" claim. So if you have information to the contrary, you can report them.

Keep in mind, Snap-on doesn't even use "made in USA with global components" likely because they can't meet that requirement. All of Snap-on's power tools say "Designed, engineered, and Assembled in USA. Due to the requirements, USA DeWalt power tools are more of an American product that Snap-on's are.

The federal guideline even warns to not use a qualified claim, which "made in USA with global components" quite clearly is, unless the product features U. S. Content. Meaning some of the parts must also be made in USA.

I wonder how long it will be until the Politically Correct crowd descdends on Lowes and picket the stores, and demand that they change the Craftsman name to a more gender neutral "CraftsPerson".

Don't think it could happen?
Look up the definition of "Front Hole"

Here's one, but there are others.
https://www.dailydot.com/irl/front-hole/

.

There are 3 front holes.......which one are they talking about? :lol_hitti

I have been interested the the SBD Craftsman rollout for a while now. Because there might be different products available at a cheaper price than currently available locally.

Examples that interest me:

3/4 drive sockets to replace my Powerfist sockets that just say made in Taiwan on them

18 and 24" adjustable wrenches that are tapered on the end for cheaters, the ones up here are rounded on the ends. No difference between Crescent or Irwin/Craftsman both made in China

The Craftsman prybar has a different end than the Stanley Fatmax. The Fatmax version doesnt work as well as the old fashioned crowbars. The Craftsman prybar "might" work better

I might actually go take a look at the CM boxes

The ones they had at the store here were junk. Flimsy and overpriced for the quality IMO. The Kobalt right beside it looked like the same box and was $100 cheaper which seemed like a more appropriate price for the quality.

Replace junk with more junk? Might not be as good as the ones you have if they still work.

The Powerfist sockets dont break just plain and roughly made. i would like another set of 3/4 drive. Easy to get import brands around here Jet, UltraPro, Westward. One phone call and a few days wait Case IH and JD rebranded.

Everybody says that Stanley makes John Deere hand tools, and they stand up well. Use Stanley Craftsman wrenches that are 25 years old on a daily basis for hydraulic work

Cant see Stanley Craftsman 3/4 drive sockets being much worse than the brands I mentioned.

Two Lowes near me are 90% or more finished with the redesign. Sounds like many of your stores haven't yet started, just have the leftover seasonal/initial wave displays of LED lights and misc.

Nearly everything branded Stanley, Fatmax, and Bostitch is being removed and replaced with identical Craftsman items.

Not sure yet whether Irwin & Lenox, now both Stanley, are leaving or if they are just being displaced. In both stores much of them have been put in random spots like shelf hangers and disorganized endcaps. The exception being the Irwin tap & die sets (HD replaced the Irwins with similar Dewalts a few years ago) and most pliers & screwdrivers still have proper places on the hangers.

In one store, Kobalt's footprint had shrunk somewhat but is still both prominent and well stocked. The other there was no change since they last rearranged. When they did last update the Kobalt displays they added the drawers for loose sockets & wrenches. In one store there is a matching red set of drawers for Craftsman singles in a different aisle than the blue Kobalt set of drawers.

I think in the long term the Keter & Flambeau made Kobalt storage will disappear. Most of the big containers already have gone to clearance. Any metal Kobalt tool are 'gone for good' according to one guy at the bigger of the two stores.

No word on whether Southwire is getting replaced. We can only hope.

I'm interested in the pricing for the drill, I've seen around that the suggested retail will be 159 with 2- 2ah batteries and charger. That's about 60-70 cheaper than the DeWalt

That's the price that I've seen as well. For the brushless, at least.

May well be a nice Black Friday deal for those new drills and impacts.
