Used to use a 2-7/8'' crowfoot to rebuild landing gear struts, and it was a 3/8 drive crowfoot, go figure.

I've got a couple of big 12pt crowfeet like that, though nothing quite that big. They get used on hydraulic lines in heavy equipment.

Thats the only thing I can think of. Possibly big oilfield equipment, or open pit earthmovers, shovels, and trucks, that sort of thing.

Not used very often, but they are very handy when needed. We had two sets up to 3" in the Heavy Truck shop that I worked in last year. It is nice to have the 'line wrench' style that is partially closed as in the photo as well as the open end crowfoot that most are accustomed too.

The set that we had not only had the 1/2" drive square as seen in the photo, but they also had several 1/2" recievers radially around the crowfeet. These were used to insert a 1/2" drive extension in and use it like an open end wrench. Again, very handy from time to time.
