Picked this up from a guy who posted it on a local Craigslist ad. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, but when I saw it, I had to buy it. I wonder if it will fit the fasteners that they use on parking lot pole lights! :)

Does anyone else have such a large wrench? If so, what do you use it for?

I have a Wright 2-1/2 and that is where my collection stops. Here is a picture of me with a Proto 2-3/16. We were using it to take care of some hydraulic fittings, amongst other things. I am 5'10" for scale.

TSC here in Canada sells some giant wrenches, its a farm supply store so I imagine they are for fittings on tractors and stuff like that

$10 was the asking price, so I just handed over the $10 and walked away with it. I don't think it has ever been used before.

Edit: I really had no idea what it's worth when I purchased it.

wow nice find for $10.00

really nice find.....YOU ****.....

Thats not an uncommon size on heavy equipment. Roadtec shuttle buggy conveyer chain adjuster for an example...LOL. . I would have guessed it to cost around $200. I checked Grainger......$283.75.

$283??? Really? Wow, I don't think the guy had any idea how much it would have cost new. Now I feel like I stole it.

Still though, I have no use whatsoever for it. I've never wrenched on anything anywhere near that size.

Funny story...I work on a ship and every 60 days we 'store up' with consumables (rags, wd-40, etc) and tools. The 1st engineer asked if we needed anything and one of the guys said he lost our 5/16" wrench. The 1st engineer said no problem and that he would order 2, one for immediate use and one to add to the gold locker. Two weeks later, amid all the boxes of supplies, we received one 2-5/16" combo wrench. The 1st engineer went nuts when he saw it and asked the Chief engineer why he ordered it. The Chief got out the 1st engineer's original, hand written, order list and showed the 1st where he had written down 2 - 5/16" combo wrench. Once they realized the mistake, they all had a good laugh. We searched the ship and couldn't find a nut or bolt that that wrench would fit so we made a special mount for it and hung it on the bulkhead as a conversation piece.

I bought a 2-1/2 antique Armstrong wrench. Don't know what I will use it for. I couldn't turn it down for 25 cents.

My brother found a set of 10 (I think?) Snap-On wrenches in that kind of size (like 1 3/4 - 2 1/2) for $80 at a junk shop. We'll never have a use for them but they look cool hanging on the wall.

Here is the large Armstrong wrench. I exchange that quarter for that wrench. I also have a railroad wrench that is about 4.5 - 5 feet long.

I once used a 4-1/2" socket for a 3" bolt! We had to use TWO torque multipliers in series to get the torque. Even then I had a 10 foot cheater bar. I have a picture (print) somewhere I should scan in.. Was a mounting plate for a double row spherical bearing about 6 foot diameter. The plates were about 3" thick A36 steel.

We have a whole rack of 2"+ wrenches at the railroad. And if we could get them at $10 a pop we'd probably have the ones we actually need.

I just sold a 2-1/2"williams on feebay, $99 including ship. Guy worked in strip mine out west.

Considering the weight and size of a wrench like that, and the fact that you have to ship it all the way across the country, is it worth selling it for $99 including shipping? I mean, it can't be cheap to ship, right?

no kidding on the shipping..

im down in texas on business and ive been crusing pawn shops when i pass them... seem a lot of 1 1/2" - 3" +/- wrenches... so tempted but shipping them home are likely to cost a fortune...

*i have no 'real' need for such large wrenches.... except of course to fill empty spots in my sets that stop at 1 1/4" :)
