Thanks guys! I really like the way it turned out. Also relocating the tv in the corner makes a world of difference. I spent Saturday afternoon watching march madness and cleaning up the garage. Before I would stop what ever I was doing to watch tv but now I can watch it from anywhere in the garage.

The last few weekends I've been busy doing small things in the garage. I finally had time to mount my bench vise and grinder. I've been putting it off all winter.

Great idea with those helmet shelves. Its amazing the random applications from Ikea that can look great and be super useful in the garage.

Wow, sweet setup! I've always like tandem garages, as long as both vehicles aren't daily drivers.

I've seen others using shelves to display helmets but when I saw the individual floating shelves I thought it would add a wow factor. As I was looking for the shelves I found a mirror and small shelf for only $15 in ikea. It looks great above the sink and it's cheap!

The miata and bike barely get driven specially during canadian winters. I park the xterra behind the miata and the acura on the road so I have full access to both my daily drivers.

I really like the floor, I am doing the support poles in my basement shop a similar color.

So I've bought a couple of cabinets months ago and finally put them together after work yesterday.

I originally bought them to hide the wiring and boxes for the internet, cable and alarm. They where just hanging on the wall and it annoyed me. I put 1 up last night but I'm going to dismount the boxes off the wall and reorganize them all before I put up the second cabinet.

I hear you on our winters. I would love to have a toy car to keep pristine during the winters.

Sounds like a good setup :D

Winters are long and summers are short. Life of Canadians ehh? Lol I can actually fit all 3 cars and the bike in the garage but that's about it though. I like having ample room to walk around and not feeling squished.

Hiding them all behind a cabinet seems like a perfect solution. You'll still have heaps of storage in there, too. Good idea.

The second cabinet will be perfect for all my micro fibre cloths and rags. I still haven't put the other cabinet up yet, it's been crazy busy at work this week but hopefully get it done this weekend.

Fantastic garage! Big fan of that year and color scheme of Gixxer too, despite always being a Honda owner. ;) Interested to hear how that air hose reel works and which compressor you decide on. Keep up the good work.

Everything is coming out great!! Looking really good in there. Ten Plus!!! on the sink!

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

I absolutely love the sink. It should be a standard to have a sink in the garage for new homes being built. It just makes sense :dunno:

Ive always been a honda guy for cars and bikes. I've had a f4i and tribal 600rr, but when I sit on a gixxer it just feels right. My **** makes the decision not my heart

Thanks daviedavie!

Woke up today with a pretty good hangover but I was determined to get the other cabinet up.

Ran into a small problem. The cable/internet/phone plugs were too low to hide behind the cabinet. It would make the cabinet chin level to my face and I don't like that.

So I had to remove the cover for the cables and drill holes from the bottom of the cabinet to snake the cables in. Also had to raise the cabinet beside it to level it off. I have enlarge the hole for the plugs but I need my saws all from work to do that. I'll leave it for next week.

Installed the broom organizer so theyre just not cluttered in the storage closet.

Ya I'll do a little review on the kit. But now I'm having a really hard time choosing a compressor. Too many to choose from. I really need it to be quiet, but powerfull enough to run air tools. I might go with a husky 30 gallon ultra quiet oil lube compressor or a makita mac5200, similar prices. Going to the states probably in 2 weeks and I'll be coming home with something. Homedepot across the border has a lot more choices than us:(

I'm loving the garage. Looks great. Even the red floor.

Have you found a compressor yet?

Why not build an isolation box for the compressor? It would have to be vented, but would still kill nearly all the noise. And, it would make choosing easier.

Love the stainless sink! Well executed! I also strongly support the isolation box idea, can be simple a plywood box with a door and foam or noise canceling insulation. As far as the air hose reel goes, 2 things come to mind; the compressor will more than likely be in one corner, say you pull that sucker out 50'+ and it doesn't lock/comes unlocked and gets free from you think about all the potential drywall/auto paint/glass ect that could be damaged. If this were me I would run some copper the whole length of the garage with a few drops for short "whip" hoses for running air tools, blow guns ect. They store easy in a drawer and stay a lot cleaner. No possibly of hoses flying, mounts ripping off the wall/ceiling. If you decide to move, leave the setup for the next owner or rip it down and have some valuable scrap metal!

Haven't had the chance to pick up a compressor yet. I have to be really carefull on which compressor to choose because of the shared walls with my neighbours. I have storage space under my stairs. I was planning on putting the compressor in that space along with building a sound deadening box. but I'm not sure if that's an ideal environment for a compressor. No real fresh air or venting.

As the for the hose reel. The copper piping is a great idea. 1 fitting by the garage door entrance and 1 at the back for 1/4" coiled air hoses. I can put the hose reel right in the middle since the storage space where I want to put the compressor is dead smack in the middle. I had absolutely no idea choosing a compressor was this hard. But I want this done sooner than later. I could of used air tools the last few weekends.

So today I went out to homedepot and picked out a mop and a mop bucket. Perfect size. Not too big and not tiny either. Maintaining a clean red floor is hard work, specially after a long gross winter.

After Home Depot I went to KMS tools to check out the air compressors. Props to the staff at KMS. I told them my needs and my noise concerns. My budget was $300-$500. After over an hour of educating me and playing with their air compressors, I came home with a makita mac2400. It's quieter than most compressors. I overlooked the small tank capacity because of the fast recharge time. The next model up (mac5200) with a larger tank was considerately louder than the 2400. With noise being such a factor I went with the smaller mac2400. I'll set it up tomorrow and play around with it.

So I finally got around to mounting the hose reel and playing around with the mac2400, but not without a big screw up on my part. As I was looking around for a wall stud to mount the reel I went right through a wire from my fuse box! Zap! Power went out. Could not reset the blown fuse. Absolutely no power in my place. Had to get into my townhouse electrical room and reset the main fuse for my unit. Finally power was back on but I still had to get my electrician friend to install a junction box where I made a big booboo the very next day.

After he installed the junction box we mounted the hose reel. I did the break in procedure for the makita. I hooked up the reel and There's a big leak in the real but only in certain positions. :headscrat I'm not sure if I should return it or exchange it. Either way I have to find a cleaner way to route the connecting hose from the compressor to the reel.

Nice piece, I'm eager to see how it handles air tools. I don't know a lot about compressors but a friend has convinced me that I need at least a 5 SCFM @90psi to maintain good power on automotive air tools.

I rotated my xterra tires this weekend with the mastercraft air gun. The compressor starts at about 130 psi. After 3 lug nuts the compressor pressure drops to about 100psi and starts to recharge. But I can still remove the remaining 3 nuts while it's recharging. Takes less than a minute to recharge back up to 130psi after I removed the last nut. The gun handled the lug nuts that where torqued down at 90ft lbs with no problem. I'm very satisfied with my choice so far. My neighbour could hear the air gun but not the compressor.

I'll post a review on the rest of the air tools in the mastercraft kit when I get a chance, but having an air gun just to rotate the tires and adjust tire pressure is a back saver.

Wow I haven't updated this in a loooong time.

former 1g DSM owner?

Ya I loved my eagle talon/eclipse. Except it kept breaking down on me. I learned a lot of my mechanical skills from fixing it.

Great garage! What is the length of garage? Plenty of room for two vehicles, and then some. Nice configuration!

I'm not too sure what's the length, but it fits an suv, car and a bike comfortably. Plus it had a nook at the end. I'm going to miss it. As I type this, I'm dismantling all my stuff in the garage. We sold our place and moving into a bigger house. I'll try to do a garage journal of my new double when we move in:thumbup:

they're great cars.. very easy to modify for big power gains. But too many people take the "cheap speed" aspect too far, abusing them and cutting corners, which is a large part of where they get their reputation as unreliable. Not at all saying you were like this, but most certainly could have been the case with your car's previous owners. I am only the second owner of my 2g DSM. I've owned it for 10 years and it has never broke down on me.

Best of luck with the move and keep us posted on your new garage!
