Eveyone has missed the ture gift.
Your father inlaw gave you his daughter.
You have taken good care of her and the real gift is your wife.
Behind every good man is a good woman.
You have been a good son inlaw and are respected and loved.
There is no greater gift.
The tools are just a bonus.
You won when your wife said yes.

I'm going beyond "you ****" with a "you lucky *******". My father in-law would have told me I could have them and then sent me a bill and laughed at me for being stupid enough to believe they were going to be free. He once got my little girl (his granddaughter) a bottle of children's Tylenol while she was spending the night and brought me the receipt as if he wanted the $6 back. I handed it back and told him he'd better hang onto it because it might be a tax write off. We sent Tylenol up there a couple months prior but they sent it home with my worthless sister in-law and her dope head boyfriend because they were afraid my nephew (that was since removed from the home along with his little brother and both ultimately adopted by me) would go without. I had no problem with that at all, would've made the same call, but it was ****** of him to bill me for it. Anyway, enough about my in-laws, congrats. Sounds like you'll cherish it and pass it down someday. Enjoy, I'm sure you deserve it.

Hi guys,

I just thought I should say a few words on this gracious gift I received.

As mentioned in my original post, my father-in-law was forced to retire because of his ailing health due to complications from diabetes. His battle is now over. He passed away peacefully in his sleep last night at the way too young age of 63.

I never knew him that well. Most who knew him said he was a mean, miserable SOB. All I can say is that he was always a great guy to me... Not to mention he gave me my best friend, my wife.

I want to add that I already had a small Snap-On box and a good supply of tools. I passed on my old box to someone who needed a box for a job he was starting and couldn't afford one, and I took a small box and put together some tools to give to his grandson (my nephew) when he gets older.

Sorry to hear about your FIL.

Make him proud by using and passing on the gift he has give in you.

And great job of paying it forward by helping some one else out with your old box.

My Father-in-law comes for a visit every few years because his home is across the ocean in another country. Sometimes he just rolls his eyes at me:rolleyes: and I wonder what he is thinking but on his last trip just this past October, he and my Mother-in-law were very afraid to change planes in America so they took a one way flight to the Detroit metro airport. Now if you know anything just to get there from Columbus to the Detroit airport and back it is at least a 440 mile round trip.

Well my wife wanted to make the first trip and I made the trip to drop them off; on the way back my Father-in-law looked at me and said "woody you are not so bad after all and you make are daughter very happy". That made my day!:rocker:

To the op you got a great Father-in-law:lol:

My FIL wouldnt have given me the sweat off his sack ! But guess who was there when he got the big C doing everything for him until the last second,,,,sure wasnt his 4 sons he thought were so great...oh well,,,nice box !

Sorry to hear about your loss. You can rest assured that if the man gave you his tools, you were A1 in his book. Most people would give you a vital organ before they'd give you their tools.

Sorry to hear about your loss. And its great that you are continuing the cycle by giving tools to your nephew. I have a nephew(wifes sisters son) that the father is a loser and in prison for like 20 years. Anyway I have kinda become his father figure and I am doing the same thing you did. Your nephew will always remember what you did for him. I have taken him under my wing eventhough I have a son of my own. I treat him and love him like he is my son and watching him grow up and be a great kid has been awesome

Sorry your wife's dad passed. To die in your sleep has got to be a blessing, and I hope your wife's family can take comfort in that.

His memory will be kept alive every time you pass by that tool chest or hold one of his tools he used to support his family.

He chose you to be the arrow he's firing into the future...

He gave you his daughter...

Every time you use a tool, remember what he gave you, and give him a good thought...

He'll hear you...

Terrific story of the gift that keeps giving . . . . great tools !!

Nice what you did with pay it forward on your old toolbox.

Like others have said, you got 2 KEEPERS . . . most importantly the wife, and second the Snappy full of tools.

Another pay it forward you can do is ensure MIL vehicle is kept is top running order since FIL is not around to care for her.

Sorry for your loss, that is one hell of a clean considering its age and work place. You can eat off the SS stop. Sorry for your loss and get to work using them maintaining your fleet of vehicles by keeping his family safe and the cost down.

Thanks for sharing that. You sound like my kind of person. I have a similar story with my sister and my nephew. They lived with me until my nephew was eight years old. They are now on their own and doing well. My sister always thanks me for all that I did for them, but I think in some ways they did much more for me. Keep up the good work. It's the most rewarding feeling you will ever have.

I appreciate all the kind thoughts. Everyone is doing ok. This was something that was not unexpected. Just do yourself a favor, please take care of your body while you can. It was sad to see someone just give up on life at such an early age.

This thread Brings tears to my eyes. Sorry to hear about the FIL. I can only hope to pass in my sleep. I just hope the services go smooth for you and the FILs family don't give you the cold shoulder because of the amazing gifts he's bestowed upon you.

Put a picture of you and him and the box of tools in one of the small drawers.

I had an old buddy who gave me a few tools, but he gave me lots more of his wisdom and experience. I keep a picture of him and me together in the lid of one of my tool boxes. He's gone now. Every time I see that picture, it makes me smile.

Sorry for your loss. Your FIL saw his time coming, and passed the torch to a new generation that he approved of. It is a great honor for a man to do what he did for you, and he knows you are a good enough man to do the same. I hope you and your wife can find peace with his passing.
