Hello, I'm a homeowner. I have just had my furnace replaced. There is a Honeywell humidifier and a U.V. lamp on it. They were wired to stay on even when the furnace is off. The installer said it will put more humidity into the air this way. It doesn't seem right to me. What say you?
Two different devices here. UVGI lamps don't like to be re-lit frequently. At my office, we run them for 12 hours a day both for extended longevity as well as some energy savings, but in a residential setting, you're probably best leaving it on 24x7. My
sources tell me that you can expect to remove an hour of life from your UV bulbs with every lighting, so if you cycle it with the blower, you may greatly shorten it's life cycle. Just plan on replacing the bulb annually or perhaps bi-annually.
As for the humidifier, I'd need to know the model to know more.
