Guys,

I just bought a DeLonghi 50 pint dehumidifier to help control the moisture in my garage. I heat/cool the 1350 sq. ft. with a 3-ton heat pump. What temp and % humidity do you guys maintain in your garage? Currently I'm at 72 degrees and 40% unless I'm working on something, in which case I lower the temp to 68 degrees. Thanks.

Not sure on the dehumidifier, out here in CA its pretty dry and I mainly just use fans to move the air around.

Nice pinball site though, I have a Lucky Ace and a Nitro Ground Shaker. Great way to spend time.

40% seems mighty dry to me, I'll probably go 50% when I plug mine in (just using the old Sears one I used to run in the basement).

THe problem with heat, cooling, and humidity in a garage is that big door lets everything in and out every time we open it. And it can take hours to get it back to where we started, and then we open the door again.
If this is a storage garage, vs a working one, I would set it to max, and run a hose from the condensation pan to a drain.
All those WWII airplanes in the AZ desert show that you cannot have it too dry for storage.

I heat and dehimidify, but dont cool.

now its about 70-75 degrees inside (highs outside around 90), and keep the dehumidifier on low so its 60-65%

In winter I heat it around 50 degrees, and unplug the dehumidifier. I didnt have my barometer in there then so I dont know what winter humidity is (probably about 20%)

We used a dehumidifier in the basement utility room when we lived in Illinois. The dehumidifier worked as intended. It had a 2.5 gallon collector pan and it was full daily during the summer. Eventually we positioned it over the floor drain which eliminated the chore of dumping the pan. The one downside was the amount of heat the dehumidifier generated. Eventually we had whole house air conditioning but still used the dehumidifier. The AC alone wouldn't keep the basement at a 'no rust on the tools' level by itself, so we continued to use the dehumidifier with the AC.

Man I think it was 10% today, got to love the desert.
