I've got a Hunter R811 alignment machine that's been starting to give me the dreaded blue screen of death so I figured I should probably re-install Windows XP but when I bought the machine, it didn't come with the WinAlign DVD. Does anyone have a copy of WinAlign version 9? I've checked eBay but they are older versions. Also looked around Google for an ISO image to download, but no luck. Thanks!

Wow, good luck. Hunter stuff is a pretty closed society, especially the software even though it won't run without the hardware key. :(

I have a 14 and 17. :(

Thanks. Yeah I've got the hardware keys for v8 and v9 and only the DVD for v8, hoping to find v9 maybe on eBay or if I get lucky and find someone who has a copy.

Did you look in all XP folders to make sure there is not a copy stored on the drive?
It's a bit early for this but worth a look.

If you want post a zip file attachment of the minidump(s) and I'll have a look at it, but XP was pretty hit or miss compared to WIn 7 and newer.

The main WinAlign program is in the Program Files folder but I don't know if I could just copy/paste it to a new XP installation. I made a system image of the hard drive with Macrium Reflect as a backup. I'll check for a dump file. Thanks for that!

No you can't just copy the files, the Dll's need to be registered and changes made to the Windows registry so it knows what to do with the program calls, in the older dos software yes that was possible.

You can download the iso from Hunter Korea's website.

There are instructions here: on how to log in to their portal and download the file.

I downloaded V9 from there as well as a camera update. Worked like a charm!

Weird.... Google translated it. I had no idea that link would paste that way. Should still work.

Awesome! Yeah I got Google to translate it. Thanks a bunch!

I haven't been on the machine to check for a dump file but the blue screen did name hidusb.sys as the fault if I remember correctly

IF the Hunter box uses a double ended cable try a different/new cable and in a different USB port if another is available.
If you get the dmp file I may be able to dig deeper.

Appreciate the help. Here are the dump files from the minidump folder.

Out of the 5 dmps 4 reference athw.sys driver which is the Atheros AR5008 Wireless Network Adapter driver.
Do you still have this PC hooked up to a network? You probably should not since there has not been security updates for a number of years now(July 2010).
I would remove the wireless network adapter and the uninstall the drivers.

I put in the wireless adapter so that I could access my NAS and networked printer. Thanks for looking into those, I will heed your advice. Not sure what the bsod for the hidusb.sys was about, though. When I picked up this alignment machine last year, it had been sitting on the side of a guys shop for a while out in the elements. Some of the capacitors on the motherboard appear to be bulging a bit so I'm wondering if Im approaching the end of it's life and will need a rebuild soon. Thanks again!

XP has always been tough to decipher bsod info from, it got better with Win 7.
Atheros drivers have been an issue for a long time, even so that system on a network can be easily infected even if it does not access the internet, other PCs or even printers that do can can provide a gateway to it.

Oh that's a good idea. I might try that if I can get this computer to work with Win 7/10.

It sounds like you've already imaged the drive, which is good. If you havent made a true image of it yet, I strongly suggest doing so (you can use an IDE to USB device to do this). On the newly made image, load it onto a fresh (or used) hard drive. Test the new drive to ensure it works. Now, to fix the blue screen of death, you can use a Win XP repair CD. If you dont have one, you can download it from your favorite torrent site and burn to CDR.

Will do! Thanks for that.

I've been in contact with a local Hunter service rep who is trying to hook me up with a Hunter HW1 computer, WinAlign v16 and 2022 specs to get me more up to date for $2k. I don't know how much these things go for so I'm hoping that's a good price.

That is a pretty decent price. I upgraded my HW1 to HW2/v17 in January which triggered the need to upgrade the USB INterface and I was also in a weird spot with my hardware key since my machine was from a Sears store and they got special non upgradeable keys. Anyway, all in it was $5k for me, but relevant to you, the key itself was $750 or $1k. Speca are $500/year.

That's good to know. I had picked up some dsp700 heads off Craigslist but didn't know at the time that my WinAlign v9 didn't support them and that I need a minimum of v11. So the hunter guy says let's go all out for this stuff for $2k. I really only need a v11 key but might jump on that stuff if I can convince the wife.

I uploaded v1.5.1 a while back for another member... But i dont have v3. I doubt you could use v1.5.1 with your heads as I believe it only supports dsp100 and dsp200 heads.
Download: WinAlign v1.5.1

Twistedgearhead sent me the software link via DM and it works great. I did have to after loading it hook the cables to the heads and do a software update on the heads but it seems to be working great now. Thanks everyone for the help.

Your red hardware key allows for WinAlign v.9 (in post #7 you can log into the Hunter Korea storage drive and download v9.1 and use that). Your green v19 key allows up to 2019 specs (I'm assuming USA?). No need to have the v17 (2017) as it's redundant with the v19 in there. The orange allows access to features within WinAlign.

On a side note (update, rather) I ended up buying the HW1 computer from my Hunter tech for $2,500 which included a v15 WinAlign key and a v22 USA Spec key, plus a free calibration. I ended up selling a bunch of old parts on eBay and recouped about 2/3 of what I spent on the HW1.

This thread keeps on giving:)

Does anyone use a PC which was not supplied by Hunter Engineering, to run WinAlign V9.1?
I'm trying to find out which are compatible.

Thanks

With my first Hunter 811 machine, I installed v9.1 on my HP laptop and hooked it up to the machines USB box and it ran fine. I had some issues installing WinAlign but after browsing the WinAlign CD I found a few folders that had some extra drivers and software, so I installed those and then was able to finally install WinAlign. I kept getting errors (I forget what they were) but after a few tries and computer restarts, it installed and booted up. You will get a message at first that states it isn't a Hunter PC but it'll let you move on after you acknowledge it.

Sorry about posting on an old thread, there really isn't much Hunter WinAlign stuff out there. My buddy has a proper licence, equipment and pc with WinAlign v7.2 on it. His drive/pc is very old and on it's last legs so I told him I would try to run a Windows XP VM on my old laptop to see if I can get him up and running with that. I have the CD ROM for WinAlign v7.2 and everything.

So... my laptop is running Fedora Gnome (Linux) and I have a VM of Windows XP in QEMU. Bunch of jargon there, but essentially I get it installing and run into a usb drivers issue with the usb box. It asks me to re-verify that the Hunter usb box is cabled to the PC I say continue then it says; Hunter usb drivers must be reinstalled prior to installing WinAlign. That's where I am stuck, I've tried: Any thoughts?

Running it on a vm is far too tricky for my liking, as you're now finding out. It also doesnt provide any performance upgrade as the software itself is still "slow" compared to todays standards. Personally, i just cloned the HDD and had a spare one standing by. I had also ensured I had replacement ram, video cards, etc sitting in a bin just in case.

The only thing I didnt have a spare of is the mother board... but usually its the capacitors that would blow and those are easy enough to solder in new ones.

Ive since upgraded and sold my old Hunter alignment setup so I no longer have to worry about 30 yr. old tech :)

You may be right about the VM, but I’m stubborn and have been smashing my head against this for the last handful of days lol.

I got passed the drivers required to be installed to progress the install for v7.2. It recognizes the usb box when plugged in now… new problem, which might force me to throw in the towel, is when the install needs to restart I get a BSOD. Dump files say hibusb.sys and/or usbport.sys being the cause, but who knows if that means my vm to my usb controllers/setup, or windows xp compatibility issues, or what.

I wondered what version that Petebob fella got running in a VM.

Hi! I havent had it on in a long time, so I'm not sure what version of winalign it uses. It's an s811/dsp600 and initially, I had some errors for the cameras. I found a folder on the hunter Korea website with different camera drivers and all was well. I'll try to fire it up this weekend to see the version.
