I can tell you the sticker on the box is the current logo (I requested some recently from Huot) which would indicate to me a time frame of 1-3 years old.

Just depends on what you want. I lean towards vintage so my opinion is it's a little high.

Are those correst drawer pulls for a huot? Every one I have seen including the one I own had the old style pull handles. That looks like a MBC. I don't know why somebody fake a huot, just seem odd to be a huot.

I knew huot was still around, but thoughtthey long ago got out of the tool box business. Their site kinda ****, once I moved away from the link to see what other boxes they offer, I couldn't find it.

Hey Wildcat,
John Huot jumping in for a moment to address your question and some of the other comments in this thread:

That does indeed look like a box we manufacture for the government. It is made to THEIR specifications, not ours. It does NOT have ball-bearing drawer slides....Someome commented that the drawer pulls do not look like ours. They are correct in that isn't our normal design but it is what was used for the government. The MSRP on that box is $461.06.

Someone said we haven't made tool boxes in several years. That person is correct in that we no longer make toolboxes that are offered through distribution, however we do make several for other manufacturers sold under their brand name, and we continue to make these for the US government.

Another person said the logo/badge on this box is the current style. They are correct, however many people rebuild their old Huot boxes so we often receive requests for replacement badges, so that doesn't really date the product as anyone could replace it. (Thats the main reason we have recently begun charging for the badges.) We have been building this box for GSA since 2007'.

Someone else mentioned our site kinda *****. Dang it, he's right. Our website is 8 years old and the people that put it together are long out of business so we're having a new one develped at this very moment and hoping to go live before the end of the year...The site had worked great for a long time but of late its been giving us fits. Sorry about the trouble and thanks for your patience.

Lastly, Huot products are still made right here in the good old USA.

Thanks for your time,
John Huot

Well, Kudos to John Huot. I knew Huot was making drill indexes by the gazillion 'cause I'm seeing them new everywhere. And I see Hout boxes rehab'ed here a lot. I think I may have a few.

Dave, looking forward to the new site.

John, thanks for confirming my supposition on the Consumer tool boxes. I had gone to the site in the last year to see what might be available, but I guess I missed the GSA section.

Hopefully the redesign goes well! (Just make sure the Web designers support all the major browsers in their efforts, some have a bad habit of sticking in widgets that are not universally supported...)

VERY COOL when an owner takes the time to chime in. I just picked up a Huot Drill Index today at an estate sale. But after seeing your reply John, I will now go out of my way to buy Huot.

Thank you for your time.

BTW, I need an index for bell hangers. I suppose I could use a normal stand, but is there a stand designed for the extra long bits?

Thanks.

Not everyday the owner of a company will take time to answer forum conversation. Good on ya, john. I hope to add one of your older boxes to my collection soon.

hello, I'm a new member but have been lurking a few years. Not much of a wrencher and never felt had much to contribute. I have been collecting and selling old tools for about three years now. I recently picked up an old Huot Toolbox full of tools. Paid the astronical price of $75. Wanted to gloat I guess. Finally signed up.

I have one similar to that, awaiting restoration. My dad bought it for my grandfather, in the 70's I think.

Nice score Grandio . . . . that's a Keeper old toolbox!!

I'd sure do some research first on whether you should "restore" that oldie. It might be worth much more just like it is . . . you know those "Antique" collectors might just have to pay you $600 for those in their current condition . . LOL.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Mighty cool that Mr. Huot stopped in, I love Huot products, I've using their drill indexes for over 40 years, never had a bad product from, only top quality at a good price. Mr. Huot thank you for manufacturing in the United States from us Americans.

Thanks for all the feedback on the box. Bill that toolbox looks identical in the images, but maybe a decade newer. Only going to do a heavy duty cleanup at this point. Take it apart and take it to the car wash.

CNGsaves; if that $600 was an offer I might deliver it <grin> As it is it is going in the garage and the three tier Craftsman will have to go out. Will keep it by the door. The only thing that stays is my Grandfather's wooden box fulll of Ford & Walden stuff, and my Dad's SK Tools. The Huot is cool enough to keep for awhile.
