Huot drill bit question

I came across a 29pc set of USA fractional 1/64 drill bits in a Huot box (up to 1/2"), and have a couple questions. Is Huot the actual manufacturer, or just the box manyfacturer? They are all marked with the fractional size, then "CO/USA". Any ideas the actual manufacturer, and what are the odds they are all cobalt?

Huot makes the drill boxes. No drill bits.

That was my understanding...but without any other specific markings, any way to determine who actually manufactured the drill bits?

Jason280,

Do they have the "backslash" between CO and USA or do they look like this...

I've worked in the industrial supply business for 42 years, and can say with some authority that those drill bits were likely made by Chicago Latrobe.

Re: Drill bit question

CO stands for cobalt, should be a dull gold color from the heat treating process, sometimes they’re stamped with the content of cobalt like m-42 which means 8-10% cobalt.

I think that "Drill America" is a brand sold at big box stores, etc. I just read discussion of their products on a model engineering website, the general opinion was that they weren't anything special. I've never had any experience with them, though.

We’ve had good luck with in our shop and on-site, i buy a lot of bits and taps, so far no complaints with drill America’s. I don’t know if there’s difference but we get them through a commercial supplier and only get usa made.

"Came across" meaning they're used? If not, who is selling it?

Huot only makes storage/accessories and they're local to me.
https://www.huot.com/

Viking Drill and Tool/Norseman are also local to me and is a very large manufacturer of drill bits in the US and I know that they use Huot drill indexes.

Can you take a clear picture of the markings?
