I recently bought a Huot tool cabinet at an auction for $40. I was wondering if anyone knew what model number I had or where to look to find this information. Is this cabinet rare, and maybe the value. Attached are some pics. I found a paper jammed behind drawer from huot, but does have any info. thank you.

It is a Model 100 top box and a Model 201, Porta-Cab bottom. I have an old Huot catalog, but it doesn't have any date on it. I have 7 Huots of various types myself...you got yourself a real great deal on those two! Here's some of mine, with a Dayton intermediate box on one and yeah I have blue tops and red roll arounds, but that doesn't bother me too much...still looking for another Huot drawer section..

That is a great deal and a nice box. Congrats!
They dont seem to go as high as other, more well known, vintage boxes. I would compare them to a used Kennedy on the aftermarket. They can be had inexpensively but are nice to have and I think they have a nice vintage look.
They arent super rare (one is listed in Classifieds now, but price seems way high to me). Also, one listed on EBay being sold full of tools for $270.
Great find. I hope you keep it and get many years of good use from it.

I have a top and bottom.
The drawers come out on the top pretty conventionally, but:

HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE DRAWERS ON THE BOTTOM ROLL-AROUND?

Thanks
Tom

Hi guys, i just purchased what i think is a huot model 100 top piece at a local aution.. It is blue in color and has 11 drawers.. It is in excellent condition.. It has a cover that folds down in front to lock it.. The tag on front says model 100.. I have not seen any that have 11 drawers though?? What is the value as i am looking to sell it?? Thanks for any help..

Nice box.

Try making your own new thread on this box to get the most responses.

As for what it's worth? How much did you pay for it? What you could get on craigslist? Probably $75-$100. I doubt if you could break $100, quite a bit of competition out there. Plus 3 digits for just a top box is going to limit it down to very specific top boxes. Depending on your location of course. If you want the most money, stick it on ebay.

Don't you think it is a bit tacky to make your first post about the value of an item you just bought, just so you can resell it?

What did you pay for it? Do some work, research it and put up an asking price. People these days, always want handouts.

Mine had that same post card in it! I bought it at a yardsale last year filled with tools. got it for 50 bucks. Bottom was trashed, and the top was well worn but still opened and closed as it should.

I am pretty sure I have that bottom cabinet as well. I will have to take a pic of mine. It has had a rough life. The documentation is interesting since it shows Huot uses Gly-Dex slides along with the dimensions of them. The patent for the slides shows it was filed 1971-04-26 and registered 1972-02-01.

I recently purchased a Hout tool cabinet that was located at my workplace through a surplus auction. Although, I probably ended up paying too much, it is pretty clean, and goes well with my vintage shop decor. It seems to be ~mid 60's vintage, which matches my '66 Mustang. I also keep tools for my '42 Crosley Convertible Coupe in it! The bottom section has multiple drawers that are not showing in the photo. I thought I would post a picture.
Thanks,
bkrsdoz

That set is really good condition. Nice find.

The one I found is a little more battered. While I like the look of the 40's and 50's craftsman's, the Hout's are growing on me. I have the 7drawer bottom in the same color as yours, and an older top box in blue that will be showing up in April. Both have been posted in the Vintage Toolbox thread.

[impish grin] I may have another bottom box on the hook, but I don't want to jinx it.

So far, I still haven't snagged the craftsman's that originally caught my eye.

I recently inherited a hout model 100 top box and a huot model 250 rolling box circa 1959-1960 that was my great grandfathers. The top box is missing 2 drawers the second from the bottom and the third from the bottom. I am really hoping to restore and use the boxes in my shop anyone know where I could get ahold of some extra drawers?

Unfortunately, the only way to get replacement drawers will be to search eBay and Craigslist for a donor box.
