We're putting the final touches on drawings for my 24x28 garage build, but I wanted to get some opinions on hurricane straps/clips/ties. I'm located in St. Louis, where we get some decent storms, so wind can be a concern.

Looking at Simpson's options, it looks like the H1 is decent, but only has one nail going into the lower top plate. The H10/H10A has significantly more fasteners, including multiple in the lower top plate, and it's listed as having over twice the uplift capacity. The H2.5A has fasteners in both top plates, but it seems like I would have to double up on the straps in order to get the same uplift capacity as the H10.

Due to the walls being 16" OC spacing and the trusses being 24" OC, I wouldn't be able to use the H2A style.

What are the most popular style of hurricane ties? Anyone have experience with the H10?

I was going to use the H10s but returned them and went with the 2.5As instead. My soffits are a bit shallow due to the 5/12 pitch so the H10s would have been right in the way of the inner soffit nailer. We can get 50 MPH wind in the spring just because. As storms go, we're at the end of tornado alley so once the wind gets past F2 or so it's bye-bye structure no matter how many ties used. I just used one on each joist end and they nail into a double top plate just fine. My building uses 2x12 joists, so each rafter got three 12Ds to the plate and 5 3" coated decking screws into the joist plus the 2.5A on each end. If all that lets go, I donnawanna be in there or anywhere nearby.
