Looking to replace my old Craftsman tear drop ratchets. They are quite worn and really have fallen out of love with them. Saw the Husky 100 position ratchets at HD today and am intrigued to say the least. Does anyone have any experience with these ratchets? Good bad ugly? TIA

seeing as how nobody has taken you serious, i will. i have the black finish 100 click locking flex. it is a good ratchet at a decent price. it is a dual pawl ratchet using the same mechanism as the gearwrench 120, the the husky uses a 50 tooth gear vs. the 60 tooth on a gearwrench 120. as said, the mechanism is a dual pawl and is based on and very similar to the single pawl apex 60 , 72, 84 and 88 click ratchets sold as gearwrench, craftsman, armstrong, matco and others.

it is a decent ratchet and would recommend them but i prefer the single pawl versions, i see little advantage over 88 and find the 60 clicks adequate for most things.

I've considered getting one a few times. As SK farmer said, it's a double pawl design. They seem nice in the store, but I know the backdrag is similar to my 120xp ratchets, and I'll be disappointed.

The backdrag people talk about on the 120xp is not that bad. Been using them for 2 years and honestly is not even an issue. The only thing I dislike about dual pawls ratchets is the thickness of the head.

Single pawl usually have thinner heads. Aniway the husky ratchet is a decent ratchet very smooth, only thing I don't like is the black finish.

Basically this but I will add the black paint is NOT durable. Very easy to scratch the paint off. Not that I need my tools to looking pristine but after one use the tool looked like it had been in use for years.

The Husky 72T is one of my favorite low cost ratchet.

I have no experience with them but the price is right that they would be worth a shot if they fill a need. That said I do have 84 tooth and 120xp gearwrench ratchets and I like the feel of the 84's better so I don't know that these would be a silver bullet for me but everyone likes different things.

Yeh the 84T gearwrench would be a better buy, I seen them so cheap in sets online it almost seem free .
Any of the better quality taiwan 72T also worth considering as some very nice ones can be found in the low to middle pricing bracket .
All the cheap dual pawl high tooth counts of any brand are not really that beneficial due to bulk and poor part tolerances/spec .

Well the only way I would ever own a Snap-On too is if someone else bought it for me or I found it. So that idea is out. I do have the HF composite set. They are fine but the handles feel weird in my hand. I think I'm gonna make the purchase (since nothing really negative has been said) and store away my old ones. One thing I really like about the Husky's is the locking mechanism on the flex head ratchets.

I purchased and almost immediately returned the 100T locking flex head. As others have mentioned, the 100T isn't really an improvement over the 72T. The back drag is a bit higher while the head is thicker. The lock didn't work well on mine. That might be due to the thickness of the paint. It seamed like it wouldn't fully engage then the teeth would get damaged under load. Finally, the paint was not durable enough to be used on a ratchet. The tool looked very beat up after doing a minor repair under my car. That was just from dropping the tool down to my side while working on a concrete drive.

I ended up getting two different ratchets to cover what I thought I was going to do with that one. I bought a Stanley locking extending flex head from Walmart and a Crescent branded roto ratchet (new) off ebay.

The Stanley has a smooth mechanism with good backlash but only 54T. Still, where I use it, that doesn't matter. The lock is VERY secure but I don't like that it has 45* detentes even when unlocked. I primarily use it as a long handled ratchet. It's too heavy for lighter work.

As for the roto ratchet, I bought this set
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YP1ZI4S/?tag=atomicindus08-20
off ebay for around $25 total. I suspect GW and "Napa" (not "Carlyle") branded tools are the same OEM. These work nicely for amateur needs. Also, it's worth reading up on the differences between roto and flex head ratchets. A mechanic friend of mine got me started on the roto heads and even though I don't generally like round head ratchets, I like these a lot!

I got this set on eBay for $15,

homedepot.com/p/Husky-3-8-in-Drive-100-Position-Ratchet-and-Universal-SAE-Metric-Socket-Wrench-Set-20-Piece-H1003D20SWS/206038542

I mainly got it for the ratchet. Used it a few days ago for some suspension work, I like how it felt. My only complain would be the quick release. I like that is leveled with the head of the ratchet but it was hard to press with gloves on.

Is this really an issue? Is it only a problem with gloves on? I always work with bare hands. I could never get used to using gloves with tools. The only time I do use gloves is when the job will be really messy. Anuthing that has to do with oil or grease and whatnot.

I only had trouble with gloves on. Without gloves, I had no issues.

I was doing front suspension work and was trying to not get too dirty.

I have too many ratchets. All big box stuff...and some SK. All are better than the old Craftsman ratchets I was loyal to for a long time. Of them all, my go to ratchets are my 1/4" Duralast and my HF Composites. For whatever reason, i just like them.
