I try not to buy China made tools whenever possible. But Home Depot at this ppint has better tool offerings of the big box stores . With the exception of maybe Menards. It could be decent quality. Gearwrench is mostly China and is highly regarded and recommend here. And Husky is made by Apex. Their sockets are IDENTICAL TO GEARWRENCH. And made by Apex as well.

$32.00 buys you a 3/8" Gearwrench 120xp on Amazon right now. Made in Taiwan and built to a much higher standard than these Husky ratchets.

These Husky ratchets seem overpriced right out of the gate.

I completely agree they are over priced. But for home owners and the average person they are probably fine. I agree the Gearwrench 120xp is a much better option. Most of Home Depot customers don't go to Amazon for tools.

So you bought and used one of these new husky ratchets and you know it is built to a lower standard and costs more than it's worth? Or are you just saying things?

But it's 100 positions. That's way more than I can get my wife into.

This is how many positions I get offered :Help:

So why can't I find these on the regular HD website?

The tool guy showed me these on the store computer, using the 'price checker' icon. Often times these holiday tool sets are not shown on their website either.

They had 100 tooth black ratcheting wrenches too. So I'm guessing the 100 teeth design is a dual 50 pawl set up like the 120xp is dual 60.

Are you just looking for an argument here or something?

Do you really think it's a stretch to think that the 120XP (Gearwrench's flagship line) is built to a higher standard than these cheap ratchets from Husky? Home Depot has cheapened their ratchet line in recent years. They used to be USA made, then they became made in Taiwan (still pretty good), and now they're made in China and a step down in quality.

I've seen the made in China ratchets at HD and they're not impressive at all. The mechanism feels rough (even on their 72T ratchets) and the chrome quality is worse than HF. The Taiwan-made Kobalt ratchets at Lowes are considerably better in terms of build quality. And the Gearwrench 120XP, which I also have, is on another level altogether.

This is what really is significant here. Another option for Apex's good locking flex design.

How much does the new Gearwrench 3/8" locking flex cost?

So why can't I find these on the regular HD website?

I spotted one of the 84t model gear wrenches for $30 and change, not locking though. I'll take a look at these when I am in store, been looking for a locking flex and these seem interesting.

Apex makes the husky ratchets and gearwrench. Not saying the husky is the same, but I have a 1/4 husky and a 3/8 84t gearwrench, the gw is nicer but the husky is not bad. Plus these are probably going to be sold in sets for the same price as just the ratchet, so I don't think it is that bad of a deal

Good call. The Gearwrench locking flex usually runs about $50-55 in 3/8" drive.

The non-locking Gearwrench designs can be found for significantly less money, and there's also Harbor Freight's flex heads which are also less expensive. But the locking feature can come in handy at times.

They're not quite the same. I know Apex makes both of them, but the Husky ratchets are comparable in quality to Apex's low-end Crescent line. Both are made in China. Gearwrench ratchets are still made in Taiwan as far as I know and tend to have better QC (less variation in quality).

Sorry, I was just asking. So you must have bought one. I didn't mean to doubt your department store tool experience.

I'm not too fond of black ratchets and already have more than I'll ever use so, I'm not really in the market for Husky stuff.

However, what if this a Christmas special and the price gets knocked down for Black Friday? I mean it's got to be better than that Mach series **** Craftsman is spewing out these days, and I'm sure it's better than a dog bone wrench.:dunno:

Could be the best thing since sliced bread or minute rice.

I say wait until the Home Depot Christmas stuff is on display, go fondle the ratchet and see if your opinion changes.

Note: I am by no means trying to convert you Asian made tool haters. You guys continue to buy whatever you want.:thefinger

Never thought I'd say this, but I would honestly much rather use a Harbor Freight ratchet than one of those Craftsman Mach ratchets...

Oh how Craftsman has fallen over the years...

Hey come on now, this guy thinks they're the bee's knees.

I like how when had to describe with one word, he said innovative instead of something positive. Still get a giggle looking at those retarded pos.

I got a laugh out of this one, is the guy retarded? Hey, I got a metal tool box and a sink that is leaking, better put box in the middle of the puddle.

You make it sound like the hf rats are bad, the composites are genuinely great, can't beat them at even double the price.

There was a guy on here not long ago asking about locking flex head QUICK RELEASE ratchets. He ended up getting a NAPA Carlyle.
The options are very limited.
From the pics, this seems to be QR.

:+1: Wonder where they got the handle design from? Ratchets have really evolved in the past 20? years!

thanks for linking those craftsman videos, I needed some comedy in my life. I gave up going in the store a couple years ago so I've missed some real treasures...

Does anyone think it would be better than the Harbor Freight Pitt's Pro Snap On knock off? I doubt it, so if I want a good cheap ratchet, I'll stick with the Harbor Freight Snap On knock off; they're damn good.

Finally saw these today when I stopped at HD...they seemed "ok". The locking flex head was $30, about $10 more than I'd spend on it personally and they also had a 100 tooth gimbal ratchet for $20 that was made in Taiwan.

I'll admit I bought the 20pc 3/8th set. Feels good.has a warranty. So what the hell. If I break it ,get a replacement and goes to the kids tool box.and I can justify a snap on rachet or matco.

Husky tools are made by Stanley Works, not Apex Tool Group. Apex does make GearWrench, Allen, Matco, Armstrong, and others. Apex was made up of a merger between Cooper Tool, and Danaher Tools. Kobalt Tools from Lowes are supplied by Apex.

Stanley makes Proto, Mac, Stanley, Facom, and a couple others that don't come to mind right now.

Honestly, I like these ratchets. If they were available in a flavor that I don't have covered in my tool box I would probably buy one or more. I will wait and see, but if there's a good enough deal, I will add them to my portable box.
