I usually see these on sale during the Christmas shopping season. My local HD had them today (there were 6 stacked up under the sign). I know they use bits and other stuff to up the count, but if you count just sockets, ratchets and wrenches that’s less than $1 for each item.

That set looks like a good deal for a back-up set, truck toolbox contents, or just someone who wants to start out with a good range of pieces for SAE/Imperial and metric.

I bought one of these a few years ago, and apart from opening it to check on the contents, it's sitting still in its box. I got it because I was working for myself in a friend's collision shop, and I didn't want to leave my 'better' sockets & etc there on days when I wasn't able to get there. I got that set starting at $99, but it dropped several times, and each time it did, I took my receipt in and they rebated me the difference. It may have ended-up at something like $59. It was a thread on GJ, and I think a lot of GJ members got them.

I bought two of them @$59 after Christmas a couple of years ago.

Not bad, but not the greatest. Best part is that it’s nice to work out of a toolbox that you know has a fairly complete inventory of sockets.

I have been fairly religious about putting them away and don’t think I have lost any in a year and a half.

So check your local store. I tool the picture at 8:38 this morning in my local store in Boerne, TX.

Father's day sale that starts when stores put the stuff out? HD does that a lot with dump display stuff, not sure if it's what theuy're suppossed to do, or just the way stores are run.
