Anybody have one of these?

My store has one on clearance for $210. I don't have an air compressor. Here's the issue: I don't know how many air tools I might want. I'm pretty well into Milwaukee M12 and M18, so I don't need an air impact or ratchet. The only things I can think of I'd need a compressor for are tires (might get an M12 inflator for that), paint guns (the husky paint guns say they only need 4 something PSI at 45, but I don't know how well that compressor will keep up, plus I might just get a Wagner Motocoat sprayer) die grinders, air hammers, and maybe some sanders. Also maybe something like a brad nailer. I don't have 220 volt in my shop and no prospects of getting it any time soon, so something larger isn't an option. Also, its normal price is only $270. Should I run back and get it, or do you think I should wait until I have more need for a compressor and just buy one then?

Ill just prep you for the “you’re going to need an 80 gallon two stage Quincy” just to run a pin nailer crowd.

If I weren't renting, I'd be all about that. Sadly, 'tis not the case. I'm thinking I'll probably make do with electric goodies for now. About the only thing I would get that doesn't have a suitable electric replacement is a die grinder, and that might be okay.

Don’t waste your money on that garbage. Save a little more and for about 400.00 you can buy a new 60 gallon oil filled sanborn from menards. I bought one of the HD’s like that and used it regularly in my garage and it lasted about a year before the motor went.

I have that exact compressor, and I love it. It runs my impact really well, and used it to stain my fence. One of my favorite tool purchases. I’d love a big oiled compressor, but don’t have the space or really need for it. The Husky does the jobs I need it to.

Unfortunately the closest Menards to my house is over 650 miles away and shipping a 60 gallon compressor isn't cheap. I also don't have 220V outlets available to me, as my shop is a rental and the owner doesn't want to add 220V.

Depending on how my truck buying goes this weekend, I will check to see if it's still there on Monday. If so, I'll probably pick it up.

This sounds like an ideal compressor for you.Be forewarned, you may start purchasing air power tools.Air wand, air drill, air ratchet, angle die grinder (I have the Astro set),spray paint gun,air chisel, air drill. Purchasing a compressor is like opening the gates to a dam. Tools may start flooding into your workshop/garage.Next thing will be a larger tool chest. It is a disease that has know known cure. I'm a carrier. You have been warned, Ken

I have the husky 30gallon oil type for work. We use it daily and have for about 6 months. It’s been great and it’s really quiet.
I can literally stand next to it while it’s running and have a conversation without yelling. The oil type craftsman I have in my home shop is horrendously loud.

There's nothing wrong with these smaller 30 gallon units unless you need high CFM AND high duty cycle. You also gain a huge advantage which is portability and dual voltage.

However I would not buy a direct drive/oiless unit. There are similar units that come with twin cylinder cast iron pumps that are oil lubricated and belt driven. They're generally much better.

Just get it.
And a stubby impact.
Air hammer.
Air ratchet.

The new Husky oil less units are a little quieter than the older units. It will most likely be good enough unless you are turning your home garage into a retail repair shop.

I use one in my home garage and like it. Enough power for my air tools. Never tried a sprayer though. One thing about a 30 gallon is that it's still reasonably portable. At my old house I used to just roll it out back to blow out the sprinkler system at the end of the year. Then my neighbor saw me doing it, so I'd roll it over to his house and blow out his system too :D

that's a good price. and on lite use it will last you a good while , I'm sure.
as you expand into needing more air you can upgrade .
people spend more than that on take out coffee in 2 months, it's not a huge investment to get your feet wet so to speak.

I bought the compressor, and amazingly it fit in the trunk of my car with the lid shut. I'll be accumulating some tools for it over the coming months I'm sure. Oddly enough the one I'm most looking forward to is a blow gun. It'll be nice to be able to quickly blow the crud and dust onto the floor where I can sweep it up.

Any opinions on the impacting air ratchet from HF? And the stubby Earthquake XT?

I've never had good luck with direct drive oilless units. They're good for a few hundred hours and then usually **** out.

If you only intend to use it a few weekends a year, its probably worth it at that price. The portability is probably worth it for what you want to use it for.

I personally would rather buy a used belt driven oiled compressor for a similar price, but usually those aren't very portable.

Buy the ext warranty, otherwise the HF Stubby is very decent.
If you get the stubby you wont need the big one.

I don't plan to use it too often. I'm just hoping it lasts me long enough until I can buy a house and spring for a decent unit. It should be fine for now.

@jonesg Luckily I already have a big cordless impact for the really tough stuff, I'm just looking at stubbys for doing suspension work, etc. I'll probably also get the Milwaukee stubby M12s when they come out. Pretty soon I'll have enough impacts to never have to change sockets on a job!
