Hi, Working on a believe 2008 Husky 5000 watt generator. Like new. The main issue is it is very hard to start. According to owner always was hard to start from new. Have new spark plug, good fuel. Also checked the oil level sensor for proper operation. Choking it does nothing. If I give it a short burst of starting fluid. She will immediately start and run great. No issues. I decided to pull the Minkuni carb. W3640 Z763 off the Subaru/ Robin engine. When I pulled the fuel bowl off I see the float level is not correct as it is lower than specs. . My issue is that the float is a plastic unit so I can not adjust the needle tab. Also the pin running thru the carb. that holds the float on is not about to move like it is swaged in there. This unit has not been repaired or tampered with so assume all parts are from factory. Are all these carbs built this way and no adjustment of float? Any help would be great, Thanks.

Subaru / Robin discontinued engine production a couple of years ago, so, at some point, it’s likely that finding parts will not be easy..
Might be best to pick up a knockoff carb now. That way, if the oem carb gets damaged while trying to set the float level, you have a backup on hand.

O.K. I have purchased and installed knock off carbs. Most ****. Even had one leak fuel when not being used. Could have started a fire. I always look for rebuild kits on OEM units if possible. Yes I see brand is no longer made. With that in mind will see if I can procure a metal float I can adjust. Thanks for your replies. Appreciate it.

Non-OEM replacement carbs are at best 50/50, usually much worse.Save your time trying to fix a poorly made carburetor. Go to amazon and buy a replacement then bolt it on and avoid a heart attack over pulling the starter cord.

I have tried several in the last year or so and every one of them was junk. They were all brought to me by customers. In the end a new oem carb fixed all 5 machines.O.K. I have purchased and installed knock off carbs. Most ****.

Check that when you choke it that the choke butterfly is actually closing ALL the way.

Not sure if it is the same setup or not, but I have a generator with an 11 horsepower Briggs & Stratton . The governor is set to run it at 3600 rpm so when starting it . Even with the choke closed, the throttle plate is wide open. You will pull the recoil 20 times and tear Your shoulder joint out pull starting it. If You reach down and push the governor linkage so that the throttle plate is closed , it will fire up with only a couple pulls of the recoil.
Hi Thanks for your replies. I checked the butterfly to be sure it operated correctly. I decided to go ahead and remove the plastic float. I applied heat from a hot gun on the tab area and gently pulled the arm up. Did this a few times and then cooled the float in an ice water bath. Reassembled the parts and now the float is a factory specs. Put it all back together. And it started on the 3rd pull. Runs great. Problem solved. Will test it again tomorrow and if all goes well will deliver it back to my family member. Thank for all the tips. Appreciate it.
