Husky 52 inch tool cabinet initial impressions

Just picked up my 52 inch Husky tool chest last night and got it assembled and started loading it down today. Thought I'd share some impressions of it. First, it was very well packaged with styrofoam protecting all 6 sides and stout cardboard corner protectors. There was no damage. Lots of the reviews mentioned damage upon unpacking so I was leery. I had lots of packing material to get rid of

Assembly couldn't have been easier. I set the base cabinet up on its side and attached the 6 casters. I threw away the "wrench" that Husky sent with it and used my Makita impact driver. Set it down on the wheels and placed the upper on it. There is no lip on the top of the base to set the top into, but it came with some L shaped corner brackets to attach the 2 sections. Attached the handle and was done. All hardware was present. No extra or missing parts and all holes were lined up correctly. Unpacking and assembly took about an hour, and I was able to do it all myself, although a helper would be ideal, especially if you aren't a large guy.

All the drawers open and close smoothly. I grabbed a fully extended drawer and put some weight on it and it felt sturdy. Love that it comes with precut drawer liners.

My biggest complaint is that the thing was covered in stickers that are supposed to help sell it at the store. Took about 15 minutes to remove the stickers and I had to borrow the wife's hair dryer as my heat gun quit working a while back and I haven't replaced it yet. The stickers weren't a big deal, but they were an annoyance I didn't want to have to deal with. They should have shipped the stickers with the box and let the store apply them on the display unit.

The finish is not perfect. It came with some nicks and runs in the paint, but that's to be expected for the price point. It has swivel casters at both ends and fixed casters in the middle. I feel like the center set of casters isn't taking enough weigh. I'm able to move the box in directions I shouldn't be able to because the center casters are able to slide with most of the weight on the swivels. I'm going to remedy that by jacking the box up and adding washers between the casters and box so the center casters take more weight

All things considered I'm very happy with the box so far. Is it a heavy duty box? No. But at $500 it's a great solution for the homeowner who wants to get organized

My boss has that box and it seems kind of flimsy and the locking mechanisms have gave him a bit of trouble, but overall he seems to like it okay.

I bought the all black one with the the two deep drawers on the top chest. I'm just say I like the box wonder. Decent box set for a decent price.

I like mine too, mine is the extra deep model (22").

Had some trouble getting it unlocked at first, thumping the top a few times got the mechanism to release.

I have had one for a couple of years now. No problems with it and I have loaded up some of the drawers pretty well.

It is certainly not a heavy duty box. I suppose you could call it flimsy in comparison to a tool truck box or something that costs significantly more. It will do what I need it to do. I will never use the locks on it so those don't worry me either

The only person that has to be happy with it is you. I say good purchase if you're satisfied. I've been looking at those top boxes, (the 41 or 42 inch ones), to put on top of my HF 44" lower box. I like how the lid has room for battery chargers and such.

Yes. My stereo and charger for my Makita stuff will go up there. I also like that the top box is the same depth as the bottom box. I was originally going to gat one at Sears that the top box was shallower than the bottom

It is a matter of preference, but I would put the fixed casters on the end,; not in the center.. I built a large bench and regretfully put rigid casters in the center. Rather than change the benches' name from Benchzilla to Super-Clunk, I will move the rigid casters to the end position.

I just prefer equipment to feel like My other "normal" boxes and equipment when moving them.

If you were working with it on a production scale, the flimsyness might get annoying. For serious DIY stuff, you should be fine.

This right here sums up this box, as well as a few others like the HF boxes. Price point is nice and it should last a long long long time as long as it's not abused.

Enjoy!

I bough one a while back. I made some brackets that bolt to my wall and then the tool box bolts to it (need the room between the tool box and the wall for the lid to open). It's rock solid and took out most of the flimsiness.

Congrats and glad you like it. As someone else said, I would put the fixed casters at one end and move the swivels to the middle

You should look at getting your wife a new hair dryer too if that's hers in the first pic. That thing has some miles on it.:) Nice box too!

Maybe I'll get her a heat gun to use on her hair lol. Two birds with one stone
