I've read the threads and the HF is the clear winner but here's the catch... I can get a new Husky for $175 vs the $330-350 plus tax for the HF. I'll be using it for wrenches and sockets (up to 3/4 drive sets). Would you still go with the HF even though it's twice the price?

Home box? Work box? For a home box that will sit in your garage with occasional use $175 is hard to beat.

Home box but I use em more than the average homeowner and I do appreciate a well made box. I have three Kennedy modular cabinets for my other tools but a small, crappy Craftsman for the mechanics tools (GF and future wife bought it for me in college).

I've considered just getting some more modular cabinets. They can be bought at industrial auctions for good prices. Garage is only 22x30 so I'll probably never need to roll around the mechanics tools but it would be nice to be mobile if I ever needed it.

It's a local deal. There's a guy around me that buys trailers/pallets of new tools. Don't know where or how he gets them but he sells them at about 40% off the box store prices.

Um I want him to be my neighbor :)

It's about 45 minutes away or I'd probably be broke. I only travel out there for the bigger ticket items. I recently picked up a brand new, in the box Lincoln pro mig 180 kit with an auto darkening helmet for $375.

Pallets of Home Depot tools appear frequently in my area. From what I can tell, it's legitimate. Many of the guys around here who buy them advertise openly, have business licenses etc.

Yeah, he advertises openly and has a brick & mortar store in a high traffic area. Never charges tax though... but I'm sure he has that built into the price ;-)

I have the 52" husky and it's not bad. I use it a lot as a home box and is doing good and is a good buy for the money. I would of got the us general box but I live in canada. Id jump on another for 175$!

I have both brands & it's no comparison. The slides didn't last a year when I had my sockets in the husky & that's with very little use. I beat the **** out of my hf cart 5 days a week & it doesn't show any signs of wear. That being said the $600 top & bottom 52" is a lot better built. If you can get that kind of deal on one of those go for it.

He was asking $200 so I thought I could get him down to $175 but he's standing firm. Still a great price @ 40% off and I'm not going to cry about $25.

But, I'm still going to pass. Every time I open/close the drawers on my Craftsman I think about how crappy it is and every time I open/close the drawers on the Kennedy's I'm impressed. I barely push/pull on a drawer and it just slides in/out effortlessly and I have some of them really loaded down. I'd rather spend the extra $125-150 to have a box that will last and give me positive thoughts when I use it.

The Husky is not for you. Even at that price.

I agree.

When I was shopping for mine, the box store ones all felt flimsier than the HF. And the display model at the HF store was abused.

When I got home and loaded the drawers up, they actually felt more solid.
