I'm in need for a good tool box and have been looking at the following tool boxes:

Husky 56 inch (23 Drawer) - Haven't seen this one in person, but seems to be well built if you receive without any damage.

Tool Vault 56 inch - Appears to be a great box, but it is not as deep as the husky. It also is not make of the same gauge steel. It does have a lot of great reviews.

Tool Vault 62 inch - No reviews. Has an odd drawer layout and is not a deep as the husky. It is also made out of a lesser gauge steel than they husky.

I'm looking for people's opinions and experiences with these boxes. Anything that could help the decision easier.

Thank you,

Never seen the tool vault boxes in person so no comment there. have looked at the Huskys . feel flimsy to me. ( open the drawers and push on the bottom , feels very thin IMO ) I like the US GENERAL boxes at HF.great reviews and feel solid when I put my hands on them. I have the 5 drawer cart and it is great. plan to upgrade my 20+ year old craftsman box to the us general 72 inch.

I’m also looking at the Homak 56 RS Pro. It is just as deep as the husky with a better latching system. I’ve heard the RS Pro series is pretty good.

If Menards had stores in Texas; I would suggest looking at their Master Force line. It may be worth Your time to price out the shipping charges on a box.. I looked over a blue 72" box last week in Bemidji. If I had driven My F150 instead of a Saturn SL1 that day; that box would likely be sitting in My shop.. I actually like the drawer arrangement in that box.

I've never heard anyone here say much good about the sturdiness or build quality of Husky boxes in general. You'd be better off checking out Harbor freight honestly

There are two models of husky box's I see the normal version and the industrial version. The industrial version looks nice to me. The normal one is better than average but still flimsy a little.

Husky didnt impress me. I had one ready to be loaded up and ended up back at HF and buying a USG box. I threw 2 sets of impacts in the main drawer and the soft close doesn't work, the middle of the drawer sagged, and the drawers were not smooth.

I would say the husky is definitely not well built lol. But it is indeed cheap tool storage and we don’t all need 10k snap ons that apparently last a lifetime of abuse. For a stationary box that’s gonna be well taken care of I’m sure the husky will suit your needs

I was on the fence looking at a Homak 72 RS Pro, I was dead set to get it as I liked the layout over the HF, wanted the deeper drawers and the steel topper. for 1400 out the door I was set to buy it. I went to most of the Napas in town and even checked out a big one in Atlanta (was on a business trip) but no one had a floor model for me to put my hands on. I have a Homak rool cart that is very comparable to my Cornwell so I know what to expect in build. BlackFriday came and went and no Napa sales.

Then I happened to stumble across this Husky. Same gauge steel (18 unlike most Huskys that are 21), similar layout and steel topper, 120lb slides vs 100, soft close (although I would have preferred the latching), depth and 500 less. I went to a town over that had 3 in stock

I got to put my hands on it and its easily on par with a Homak, better than a HF and out specs them both. Toss in a HD 15% off coupon and I was out the door 835. (763+72 tax)

I agree with this.
I have the 56" matte black Husky. I liked it for the price and drawer layout. I almost went with the an HF but I didn't like the drawer layout as much. It is not going to be beat on everyday. Regardless I would not call it flimsy. It may not be built to the strength of an Extreme, Snap On , Homak, etc. But it isn't made of cardboard either. I didn't think the build quality (of the matte black line) was any better or worse than HF.

I made sure I checked for damage and that all the drawers worked before I took it home. There were a couple drawers that worked but were a bit "sticky". The culprit was a slightly bowed drawer side which was causing the slide to be miss aligned part way through the travel. Removed the drawer and straightened with a dead blow. Worked fine after that.

If you are going to be opening / closing the drawers 10, 20, 100 times everyday, then the slides will wear out or break (they can be replaced). If this is a personal use box it should be very good for a long time.

When talking about Husky boxes it really does matter which one. They are not all built the same. There are Husky boxes that really do seem low grade. Even in the same size. EX- the new 72" is not the same as the older 72". And the gloss black with chrome trim do not seem as well built as the matte black. They are not all built the same way and probably not even from the same source.

I seriously considered an Extreme. But for my use the Husky won out on drawer layout and price. If I had thought the Husky was going to fall apart tomorrow I would have gone with something else.

Yup, that's one of the key identifiers (at the moment) between the industrial and regular Husky lines. The one I linked is the first time I have seen the same specs in a different color.

I had a chance to take a look at the International Pro series from Northern Tool. It seemed okay. The manager at Northern stated he has sold quite a bit of the Homak boxes. The Homak RS Pro series is looking pretty good. Does anyone have any experience with the RS Pro series?
