I'm looking at doing a serious and long awaited upgrade to my Craftsman "Homeowner" 26" tool box thats been overflowing for years now. Currently comparing between the:

Husky 61" Tool box
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-6...ng-Cabinet-Combo-in-Red-H61CH6TR12R/304016204

and the Toolvault 62" tool box
https://www.strictlytoolboxes.com/tool-vault-62-22-drawer-tool-cabinet-with-top-chest.html

Suprisingly very little reviews on either of these and ones that I do find are "yeah, it looks good and closes good im happy".

I'm interested in hearing about anyone's experience with either of these two boxes. I'm also interested if anyone has anything to say about either in general whether they've owned one or not.

As a side note, I rent my home so there will eventually be a move in my future (5 years down the road maybe?). I'd also like to get a side cabinet but for the Husky I would need to get a HF side cabinet for 200 (no casters underneath) bringing the total for the husky option at $1000 (very appealing price-point) while the toolvault is $2500 (tougher bite to swallow) for the combo and tool vault side cabinet (with casters underneath the cabinet). The husky box is 18" 21 gauge steel while tool vault is 20" 20 gauge steel.

Why get a 61-62 inch box plus a side cabinet instead of a 72" box? The HF boxes are heavier gauge steel than either of the options you listed and the weight capacities aren't even close.

When I went to my local HF and played with the floor models. I didn't enjoy how the drawers locked and that they could be wiggled sideways by around an inch when open. It was also a bit annoying that there isn't a 72" top chest.

Cost difference between 62" tool vault + side cab vs 72" HF bottom, 56" top and side cab is ~$500. I'm open to recommendations I just didn't get that good feeling with the HF unit and I'm also concerned about no center wheel support. If others have had different experiences with the HF unit I'd like to hear them . I own a 46" Husky workbench top tool cabinet which doesn't have that same wobble but I also don't know if the tool vault does the same since there are such little reviews on it.

if you didn't like the HF models you won't like the husky .
Many times centre wheels are excuse for less rigid frame .
I would look at homak rs pro or masterforce if near menards,
Draw layout important so take that into account fully .
I like layout of that tool vault but they little overpriced for what they are, masterforce pretty much equal for less and 24" deep, Homak also 24" depth .

I'm not impressed with the husky boxes. That tool vault looks nice, but I've never had my hands on one.
I have no complaints about my masterforce box at work. I love the latching drawers, especially for moving it around.

The main downside of a HF box is the stupid little latches. The “feel” of them seems to get better when loaded. A guy at work has the 72 and it works well for him.

Another downside is the shallow depth of the box. The Husky is listed at 18 inches deep. That’s pretty shallow these days. I have seen that Husky in person. The drawers were very shallow (plus not full extension IIRC) and it felt like it was going to fall apart just sitting there. It was wide but that was it’s only quality.

This is a much better buy than the 62” Husky.

56" husky industrial maybe worth looking at
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-5...D-Textured-Black-Matte-HOTC5623BB2S/303412321

I would also consider just 24" deep lower 56" plus side hanging drawer addon and keep the 26" for top so gain some countertop space or use a matching smaller box as a top box.

THE HF US General have 2 factories making the boxes, the ones with the slides detents even on boxes with plastic finger latch tend have few preferred manufacture differences . I wouldn't rule out US General at best coupon deal, see plenty in use daily and while no snapon or matco they are surprisingly decent and usable and potentially quite good value .

I would like to hear from more people on this.

I will have to take a look at the Husky Industrial 56" box when i'm at homedepot next time. Masterforce would be a good option, but I live in the Southwest thus no Menards.

I have had mine for a while now using them every day. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=411753

When I check out the boxes as Lowes and Home Depot I just cringe.........they really are just very cheaply built. There are a couple I've seen that I liked but for the overall quality they should be less money. I'm very happy I bought the US General boxes. My only other considerations were used Snap On, Matco, etc, off Craigslist at the time.

After I stopped turning wrenches, I sold my Snap On triple bank and purchased the Husky 56" for home use. It did the job and wasn't too bad but I was never fully happy with it. The top drawer of the bottom chest was rubbing the rivets on the frame. Ended up selling it and purchasing the 72" HF box. Much happier with it for home use.

For the HF 72" box folks, how'd you go about getting it off the truck then into the shop? The driveway into my garage is at a slight incline and I have no heavy lifting equipment on hand (either rented or using a box truck liftgate to backup right next to the garage entrance and lower it down).

I have a Tool Vault and its done me well. I have out grown it but with that said if I had to do it now I'd go with one of the HF offering seeing how far they came. You get more for your money. That or look into extreme boxes. Check out rockin tool boxes. They always seem to have great deals on extreme toolboxes
