Thinking about picking up this air compressor for the garage. I dont need anything heavy duty...just for airing up tires, blowing out crevices while detailing, running an occasional air tool and what not. It will fit easily under a workbench. Anyone have one or have an opinion about Husky? I looked at a Craftsman with basically the same specs but its $70 more than the Husky.

I'd avoid that one. It is an oil-less compressor. They usually scream like a banshee and don't last like a piston pump.
Look for a piston pump compressor of similar size with oil in the crankcase. You will be much happier in the long haul even if it costs a little more now.

Unless you like wearing earmuffs while using it. I would not buy one. Oilless compressors are very loud. Buy a good quality unit. you will be much happier in the long run. Not to mention that it will last much longer.

Hey man, hearing what you need it for I would say go for it. I do actually own it, use it for about the same things you list (do run nail guns, etc as well).

Sure, it is not the quietest/best thing out there, but I can rotate/inflate tires, use nail guns, die grinders, etc just fine.

It is also $20 cheaper then when I got mine some long while ago.

Anyway, just my $.02

I have this one and LOVE it!! It was a splurge for me, but I don't regret it one bit.

Having owned a 30 gallon, direct-drive compressor all I can say is DON'T BUY IT!

My Craftsman worked great but was ungodly loud and vibrated like crazy. If you look around you should be able to find a belt-driven compressor in that size. HF has them, I think.

I don't know the quality of the HF units. They're almost certainly made in China. But, is the Husky you're considering made in China?

A friend also has a 60 Gal compressor that he got at Menards for only $400. That's bigger than you want, but they could have a smaller version more in your price range.

Just my .02

Good luck on the search!
