Husky box and store credit

I want to purchase this Husky tool box.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-56...t-Textured-Black-Matte-HOTC5623BB1S/206842294

Home depot does not stock this model in their stores so it must be purchased online. I was planning to purchase the box with store credit that I need to use, but found out today that you cannot use store credit online. I went into the store to see if they could order it for me so I could use my store credit, but was told "no". I was also denied the option of buying the box and returning it and then using my store credit. They also would not allow me to purchase a gift card with my store credit and then use that online. Has anyone figured out a way around this?

I would find a different store or be calling corp and insist they convert my store credit into cash I could use.

I may give this a try.

One of the employees told me that homedepot.com is a seperate company than the B&M stores which is why they don't take store credit. Does not make much sense to me.

I'm pretty sure I seen this box locally on display. I'm almost 100% sure it was this box. I remember they had one of those ours/theirs comparison signs on it. It may not be stocked at all stores. Because I know it's not at the one close to me. I stopped at one about 45 min away while doing some work and that's where I saw it.

You probably saw the 52" model.

They keep this model in stock. The 56" model that I want has 8 more drawers.

They started the store credit for all the no-receipt transaction to stop people who would steal/return items for full refund and then sell that gift card for a slight discount in exchange for cash. I think it started last year from what I understand hanging in the Home Depot hot deals thread. One way way around it is to sell your store credit to somebody making a purchase in-store and getting the cash from them.

I checked our local version of craigslist and store credit is selling for 20%-25% below card value. This is an option, but it raises the price of the box by $200-$250.

I like all these ideas, keep 'em coming. Hopefully, one will work.

There are some stores that stock that toolbox, start at the pro desk and get a pro associate to find it for transfer, if that doesn't work, ask to speak to a manager at your local store and request that they transfer the box to the store for you. My local HD has transfered things across the country for the right reasons aka big sales. Just takes a polite approach and patience.

One heads up about that box - the drawers are all the same height. This may not be an issue for you, but there are two annoyances for me:

1. Only the long socket drawer or the two deep drawers at the bottom aretall enough to fit milwaukee 12v batteries standing up
2. Ryobi 18v batteries do not fit in any configuration in any drawer besides the long socket drawer or two bottom drawers
3. Power tools do not fit in any of the drawers beside the socket drawer or bottom two drawers with belt clips attached.

The box would have been a lot more useful for me if each drawer was increased in height by 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

Do you know of a specific store that carries it? I will reference this when I go in.

This is good to know. I don't plan to store a lot of power tools in the drawers, so I think I will be okay. Were you able to purchase yours in a B&M store or did you have to order it?

Start picking random zip codes of big cities (ie "shop this store" on the website) then "check nearby stores."

Good suggestion. I was able to find a few stores with the box in stock. I will check tomorrow and see if they will do a transfer.

Maybe there's a member near you about to make a big purchase and would buy it for 95% or so. This is why it's beneficial to have your location in your profile, which I see that you do. I looked because it's feasible I'd buy it to help you out if you were nearby.

I went to the pro counter this morning and asked them to transfer the box for me and they refused unless it is in their region (which is small, only part of Utah). They said they do not do long distance transfers anymore because of the ship to store option on the website.

The good news is that one of the stores about 30 miles away did not show any in stock, but there was a note to call the store. The woman at the pro counter called the other store and they sent out a search party. They ended up finding one in receiving. I drove over there and bought it with my store credit. I got lucky!

We're going to need pics and a good review!

I'll do my best to give a good review, but I have only had craftsman cheepo's and an old MAC to compare it to. This will be my first ball bearing experience. The main reason I chose this over the HF is the soft close drawers. When I tried them on the 52" Husky they seemed awesome. I hate the way the HF open and close. It seems everything would be sliding forward and back every time you open and close them (maybe they were not broken in yet). The price and color of the Husky's is also nice (I'm tired of my red ones).

At least on the Milwaukees the soft close drawers get VERY sluggish to borderline non-functional in the cold, say much under 30 degrees. It gets proportionately worse as temp drops further. Someone here posted in the far North where it's single digits or below zero they just don't work at all.

I'm not saying you made a mistake, just saying they're not miraculous.

I'm very interested in that box. One thing though. The product page on HD's website calls it a 56" wide combo but in the product overview says it is 60" wide. Can you confirm its dimensions?

It is 56". Maybe the box it was packaged in was 60". Once I have put some tools in it I will write an amateur review. So far, I am impressed, but take that with a grain of salt as I have no experience with the expensive boxes so I might be easy to please.
