Husky Cabinet--Home Depot rocks!

A while back I purchased a three drawer Husky toolbox at HD. It has been sitting around the shop looking for a home. This week I saw their Husky 27" 4 drawer base. It is not heavy duty but it was pretty sweet at $119. I went to the store but could only find their display. It was missing keys and rolled funny. But the competent salesman flipped it over and discovered that someone had assembled the locking casters DIAGONALLY!

Two minutes with an impact solved that problem. He offered it up at $99 due to missing keys. But we also found a top dent from the toolbox. Drops to $90 and the story just keeps getting better.

I was in the lot ready to load and Mr Nice Guy came over to help me load. It is not very heavy at 101 lbs but helping a buddy out was great.

I covered the top with plywood and gave the Husky box a new home. It will make handy storage and the wheels are a bonus in my crowded shop.

Last bonus. I called the HD support number and my keys will be shipped out Monday. WooHoo. Christmas came early this year.

I disagree. Most Home Depot's I frequent are very helpful. I recently stopped on my way to work to get some fence nails. I was running late and had to get to work. When I went to check out, the scanners did not recognize the SKU# on the boxes of nails. The manager came over and told me to take them for free!

Once they got rid of that idiot CEO who drove off all the good help, HD has turned around and become a pretty customer-oriented place. Actually, in my area even after the CEO screwed up, the new hires tried to help, but were lacking knowledge and training, so I have always been sympathetic to them.

I've got the Husky 27" bottom unit with two 3-1/4" drawers over two cabinet doors, a mid unit with two 4-1/4" drawers, and a top unit with four 2" drawers and a flip top. This set-up has been entirely adequate for the tools I have in it now. I don't have too much stored in my bottom cab door section though, but maybe if I take the doors off for easier access I might.

Depending on what you want to do on/with that plywood top, the right hand side could very nicely accommodate a small hobbyist vice with a desktop flexy stem light behind it.

I agree with your disagreement. I'm building some bathroom cabinets and needed some off the shelf doors. I was going through what HD had when one of their guys came up to me. I told him I thought I found what I wanted. He said lets look inside to be sure. When he slit the packing tape he said ... "oops, I'm going to have to give you 15% off now". He then said we should look inside the other 3 boxes too. No complaints from me.

Most of them are helpful now. From my experience, there have been three distinct "periods". First was where the had master handymen working, with actual experience. Then the cheap college help phase without knowing anything. Now they are heading back in the right direction, but knowledge seems to be limited to exactly what they carry, vs general knowledge of their area.

I always correlated the economy with the state of help. This was because from 2007 to 2010 I remember finding licensed tradesmen working in appropriate departments!

That's often been my experience. Trying so hard to be helpful they are annoying.

At least you have a Home Depot. Im getting sick of playing where's Waldo to find an associate at lowes. They apparently like where's Waldo because he plays it to find a forklift operator or remove isle sections. They don't update the location of something online and apparently no one in the store works in whatever section you are in. I feel sorry for the poor souls, accidentally wore blue polo and tan pants to Walmart..... i had to leave...it was that bad.

I was selling a nice husky ball bearing and a cheap craftsman friction slide I hated. Everybody called about the craftsman. Some people.... those huskys are priced good, and you did good.

I am in a rural area, and we aren't lucky enough to have a Home Depot, Lowes or Menards. I generally go to the local lumber yard, or privately owned hardware store.

Too often, I have crossed paths with the PFK who "knows not of what he speaks". Easier to buy local

My HD is fantastic super friendly knowledgable people that will go out of there way to help. Lowes that is another story go in to pick up online order and they look at you like you are an alien.

I needed a bag of pellets for my wood stove and went to Lowes to buy a bag. (first time buying as I just moved into this house and its my first experience with a pellet stove)

Looked myself for the pellets were I though they would be... no luck. I also noticed there were no associates around. This was Monday evening around 6pm. I went up to the registers and the one cashier didnt know where they were but offered to send an associate to that area to help me...

Ten minutes later I drove to Menards...

I was greeted by 3 associates at the customer service desk. I went to lighting and there were 3 people there who offered to help. One lady walked with me to show me where the pellets were. They had 3 different brands of pellets.

Way better service at Menards. No Home Depot near me. Closest one is a 15 minute drive.

I found out later Lowes doesn't even stock pellets...

Around here Home Depot workers are usually really helpful (and some quite knowledgeable). Lowes tends to be the opposite. Depends on your location.

I routinely use two Home Depots in two different states. I've had mixed experiences, but overall I've been happy with the associates.

Another reason that associates ask if you need help with anything is for loss prevention. I remember back when I worked retail (high school days) they taught us that if a would-be theif knew that someone was around, possibly watching, it could deter them from stealing. Is it effective? Maybe. But it does show that the workers are being trained, and that they at least care about their work.

Went to HD and picked up a 27" box combo - 9 drawer top, 7 drawer lower - to replace/augment my 25 year old craftsman box at the house.
Most fun I've had at a store in a while. Upper and lower were stored in different (faraway) areas of the store on the top of the overhead racks. Employees were running around everywhere looking for them. It was like watching a scavenger hunt. Everyone was helpful and enthusiastic.
It would probably be quicker if they knew where things were stored, but I was in no hurry, and it was funny to watch.

We went to HD today for some stuff and while there I decided to buy one of the Keter made Husky branded 22" tool boxes. I had been following a thread on "hot deals" about the same box sold at Cosco. Anyway, it was a hoot watching a couple of employees look for this thing. The store litterly had tool boxes stacked up in every aisle and apparently it had been done without any planning. HD always looks like it is a flea market or yard sale anyway, but today was the best. You might pay a little more but they normally carry higher quality stuff. (or at least can order it online)

Customer service at the store I go to is always top notch..
