Guys, i picked up a used CS-45 1/2in ratchet the other day and did not realize the selector switch was cracked all along the raised part of it. I tried looking around for rebuild kits but cannot find them for these ratchets. It actually works nice and feels good but the selector binds up due to the broken piece. These are not high dollar ratchets or anything but it could still be a very serviceable tool if i could find that selector plate. Sometimes there are other brand service kits that will drop in. Maybe someone here knows which guts are compatible with this CS-45.

No photo to see, but if it's a New Britain Machine Kilness ratchet, they're pretty sweet. There's a thread somewhere in here where the member was collecting a list of all the brands NBM made these Cx-45 rats for--I think it was over a dozen. Anyone remember where that thread is? NBM, Husky, Giller, Sparta, and many more.

In any event, the parts in any rat marked CS-45 and the patent number, regardless to the brand on it, will interchange with each other. Same rat. Some have snap rings that hold the core, some have split rings--doesn't matter.

My point is, it might be easier to find a donor rat than the rebuild kit.

Take the whole selector off and use JB Weld or something similar on it.
Otherwise, it's find a parts ratchet.

I sucrssfully repaired the selector on a New Britain 3/4 inch ratchet using JB weld. Clean it good with alcohol and make sure it’s clean of any grease. Should serve you well.

Thank you guys. I thought they all looked the same but I will take a pic and attach. Not a bad idea for JB weld. Ill give that a try. I figured as long as they were made that the rebuild kits would be very plentiful. If you check out the link below, it is similar to Fig 95 New Britain ratchet. Just for fun I may try to find a broken donor ratchet or an equivalent but as mentioned above the JB weld is probably the best route.

Thank you guys.

Well I tried the JB Weld trick and I think we are good to go. It seems to have worked well. I have not used the ratchet much so not sure about durability but so far so good.

Hi there,

If you cleaned/lubed the mechanism when fixing the selector, did you notice if there was a ball on top of the spring that pressed against the pawl?

Mine does not, and from what I've seen from a YT vid and another GJer there was no ball (but the patent design shows one).

Thanks!

Matthew
